What's the difference between Termignoni Y-Pipe and Akrapovic Y-Pipe

hi there
i don't get the difference between the Termignoni Y-Pipe and Akrapovic Y-Pipe. Their prices are so much difference. The Termignoni Y-Pipe costs around $450 and the Akrapovic Y-Pipe costs around $210. But since they do the same job, why their prices are so much difference? Is the Termignoni Y-Pipe better?
Please help me.
Thanks.

No performance difference.

Appearance wise, the "Y" section is different. On the Termi, the 2 pipes split further down the pipe where as the Akra pipes converge much sooner.

I would save the $ and go with the Akra. It's great quality and a nice looking piece to boot.

Can I use the termi pipes with the akra y pipe?
The termi y pipe is a absolute rape @ $500 for the 07-08

Yup. The Akra Y pipe works with pretty much everything out there.

the termi y pipe is MUCH larger and goes to the canisters i believe. That's why it costs so much more. Has nothing to do with the headers, but it goes back to the canister I believe.

I bought the Yoshi and it fits perfect on my 06 R1. It's a lot lighter too. See the pic of the Yoshi next to the stock Y pipe. I ground down the edges on the Yoshi Y pipe where the slip-ons attach to make them start on easier. The other pic is the A&R baffle next to the stock baffle. Big difference there too. I figured I'd just throw that one in there since I had it.

OOPS !!! I meant Akrapovic Y-Pipe. I had Yoshimura stuck in my head from another bike. Sorry for the confusion. I should say my Akra Y-pipe fits perfect....

The Akra Y pipe will work with any slip ons just like the stock cat would, and i can tell you, there is plenty of noticeable heat difference...and it's a HELL of a lot lighter than the stock Y pipe, and the engine revs faster and stronger too....

The Termignoni Y pipe on the 07/08 only fits the termi cans, unlike the 04-06, it connects at the mufflers, not at the link pipes....and is wayyy overpriced, but does look good with the termi's and comes with a nice carbon heat shield....

i put a universal carbon works heat shield on my Y pipe

the welds are really nice too....and a great buy for the price, well worth it

I was actually just doing some digging around regarding Y-pipes (specifically Termi's Y-pipe) and I found out some interesting info...

I called a Termignoni dealer in Canada (who claimed to have extensive experience with Termi exhaust systems) and he told me that Termignoni makes two different Y-pipes:

-One that comes with the Titanium Competition Full System
-One that you can buy seperately to replace your stocker (stainless steel)

He said that there is a huge difference between the two.

The Y-pipe that comes with the Competition Full System has a much larger diameter at the bottom of the "Y" where it connects to the mid-pipe/headers. But the diameter of where it connects to the exhaust cans are the same diameter as the stainless steel Y-pipe that you can buy seperately. So, the Competition (titanium) Y-pipe will NOT fit stock headers. He also said that the Competition (titanium) Y-pipe is usually NOT sold seperately.

The Termignoni stainless steel Y-pipe that you can buy seperately is designed for the street version of the exhaust (Termignoni Strada Standard Mount Full System), and this Y-pipe has identital diameter specs to that of a OEM R1 Y-pipe.

The stainless steel Y-pipe is only $139.99 (part #446-8000) and can be found here: http://www.exoticsportbike.com/r1_(04-05)1.htm.

The Termignoni Y-pipe for $450 that you are talking about may be the Y-pipe from the Titanium Competition Full System.

As far as the Akrapovic Y-pipe...I don't really know much about that pipe, but I did find it (part# 425-2630) for $149.00 at: http://www.exoticsportbike.com/yzf_r1_(04-06)2.htm.

Hope that helps.

I think that link is for the wrong year bike. I went to the 07-08 R1 and the stainless y pipe was still like $499 on that site
