Which upgrade to buy?

I have been looking to spend a little bit of money on an upgrade but I am not sure what to get. I am looking for something along the lines of more power, fuel management, performance, etc... I am not sure on the Power Commander V or possibly Bazzaz... Also, I am not sure if there is anything else out there along those lines. What benefits does the PC5 or Bazzaz have? Which one is better, if one of them is? Any insight would be great.

Thought about suspension but wasn't sure yet. Just installed braided lines and new fluid and I will be getting new pads soon. This is probably a crazy question but, how big of a difference does suspension make? What are the benefits? Obviously it has to do something but I am not sure if it makes THAT big of a difference for the price.

suspension is everything. If that isnt' right, unless you are going in a straight line, power isn't going to do anything for you (except put you on your ass faster)

As others have said, suspension is probably your best bet to improve overall performance. Before dropping any real money into upgrading your OEM, maybe you should look into getting your bike/sag setup for your weight; which may require new springs, and if your bike hasn't had the fork fluid changed since '04, then you might as well do that too

One another note... For the 04-06 R1, I would probably go with Bazzaz primarily to simplify your electronics package (fuel controller, AFM, quick shifter, and traction control) There isn't a ton of space to store all those boxes

Thanks Uncle P!

Best mods to do for hardly any money..

If you've a standard damper take it off and put a heavier weight oil in it I went for a 10w
Much better

Suspension is a must you won't realise how badly set up they are till u do it

if you don't know how much difference suspension makes, you have absolutely no use for more horsepower.

suspension=most important part of the bike. upgrade it first.

This is the reason why I love this forum. I see where you guys are coming from. Now that I think about it, the bike has plenty of power as it is. I can get on that bike and FLY all day long, in a straight line. But when it comes to the corners, I need much more improvement. Thanks for all of the advice from everyone.

Does anyone know how to get the bike set up for my weight? I don't know of too many specialists here in Germany that can do work like that. We have bike shops, but mainly just bikes and parts. I don't know of a place near me that specializes in stuff like suspension.

Also, I have a K&N and Arrow exhaust for the bike. Do I need to do anything computer-wise for it not to damage the motor over time or run like crap?

I've been told in another thread that Watsen turn signals "will transform your bike".

SPanega, thanks for the link. That's a ton of great info. I will be changing out the fork oil on the bike since I don't think it has been done since the bike was purchased, but who knows. Also, I am going to fine tune all of the suspension for now since I can't afford a full set of Ohlins. I guess that's going to have to work until I can find better suspension.

Will do for sure. After watching a few videos on how to properly adjust the suspension, I went down to the garage and did the "push down on the seat" test. The suspension went down and then extremely slowly came back up. I am not sure if the suspension was ever adjusted on this bike.

Is there a good video out there for changing the fork oil on the R1? I have been looking and haven't been able to find one. Also, do I need to take the fork tubes off the bike for this work?

Yikes! I was afraid someone was gonna say that. No problem. I am sure I can tackle it. Is there anything important that I need to know, other than the obvious stuff? I have done tons of work on my bikes but never the fork oil.
