Okay so I finally got to putting on my PC3 I purchased and am having some problems.
It will not load a new map or read a the current map. Its the old school power commander with the old 9 pin port, not the mini usb like the newer models (went and got a usb and port cable from best buy). It will say "error retrieving map" and does that for any option I hit...Doesnt show RPM or anything on PC3 software.
I am also trying to do it while the bike is running and no on a 9v source. I hear that this can be done??
Does the PC3r use a different software than what i would find on power commanders website? I downloaded the software for the PC3 with USB - Not an option for pc3r
Map that a fellow member gave me works on the software and shows the tables
what is that? a monitor cable? it might be a compatability issue. just because it fits doesnt nessasarily mean its going to work. contact dynojet and see if you can get the original cable.
The connection is a USB to RS232 adapter. I've read multiple post on where it will and can work with this piece I've bought. I'm going to call power commander today and see what they say though
Got lengthy response from power commander. I was using the PC3 USB software and they said that would have caused the issue. They also said that a lot of the usb serial cables will not work though. Worse comes to worse, I am going to try to download from my work desktop via serial cable with a 9v adapter to power it. We'll see what happens.
Either way I will post solution to hopefully help the next individual dealing with this BS
Hello, I just went through this I think...the older PC3r will not work with the PC usb maps. Also you need the power adapter to adjust the settings or upload maps to it. I've attached all the info I found and used on mine, it worked GREAT! Hope this helps, best of luck!
not sure if this helps but on my PC3 USB it would not upload maps while the engine was running. that was the only way it would power up on my R6. (because key on engine off, the power commander wouldn't respond) It had to have the 9v battery hooked up to upload maps.
Got it all worked out. Installed the PC3-PC edition software and it hooked right up. Had to have the bike running in order to do so. It wouldn't connect at first then went to top drop box and "auto" connect for comp port.
Bike runs great now
