I just switched to gp shifting and personally I love it. I've heard mixed opinions and even had them myself. However, now that I've tried it I don't think I'll be going back. What do you think about gp shifting?
Never going back the standard shifting. Makes more since to push down for good consistent upshifts rather than having to hook your foot underneath. I miss shift into neutral with standard shift.
Better for upshifting when cranked over on the left side on the track too.
Have you always had it setup that way and if not was it hard to get used to? After shifting so long the standard way it's to the point where I don't think and it a natural movement. I feel like if I changed it now I'd fvck up shifting once in a while if I wasn't thinking about it. The other factor is that if I did decide to change I'd have to do it to my old ass HD and I don't think the sell a mod for that it's so old. I wouldn't want to go back and forth from bike to bike shifting differently, I don't think my old brain could handle it.:dundun::bowrofl:
I think the only way to really find out how much or if you would like it is to try it. Some GP racers actually used standard shift, but that is a very small fraction. Ex. Chris Vermeulen.
I see no reason to do it unless you are on a track. I tried it and found no advantage to it other than being one of the (COOL) kids that say I have GP shift on my bike.Why do something one way for 20-30 years and then switch it around to the complete opposite just because it is different! I downshift as much as I up shift. No advantage unless you are dragging elbow. and then you probably don't need to be shifting anyway :lol
standard shift is too burned into my muscle memory. I went gp shift last summer and had to go back. kept going the wrong way on accident when I was all worked up and focused on my riding, I'd go the wrong way.
with that said, it is a better way to be shifting while riding hard. hands down better. maybe I should stick to it and get used to it.
I use mishift into neutral here and there. Not often but I did use to do it.
After switch the GP, I no longer mishift. It makes more sense. You can get the the top of the shift lever a lot quicker than you can get underneath it. And I have big feet.
When down shifting, I'm normally place my foot under the shifter long before I actually downshift (I always revmatch when downshifting).
Upshifting, I move quickly over the shift and upshift then move my toes back to the peg.
GP shift is not for a "cool" factor, it's much easier and makes more sense.
I personally adapt very easily. I made the switch after years of riding Standard.
When downshifting, I do it in 1 settings. When upshifting, I do it in intervals.

I like GP shift for road racing, but since I race dirtbikes as well I couldn't go back and forth. So since I can't make the dirtbikes GP I just leave the road race bikes standard.
I use "C", all of the above. Set the trackbike for GP and left the street bikes standard. Have had one mis-shift since doing it in 2009, and it was on the street on my Vmax. Wasn't fun since an upshift was needed.
I'm still undecided!
For me its the extra cost of getting a push sensor for the quickshifter
Plus I'm not confident I won't forget and slam it down a gear by accident lol
Stick with what is comfortable, You downshift as much as you up shift so no real advantage other than when it is layed over and your dragging elbow! I personally don't feel the need to shift while doing that :wink2:
I'm going to leave mine standard shift as I believe it's more important to hit my downshifts than to hit up shifts. That's said I've never missed an up shift on this new r1. It's amazing really.
GP shift actually makes more sense than standard shift when it comes to both up shifting and down shifting.
When down shifting, you leave your foot under the lever because you usually go down multiple gears at a time. There is no hassle of finding your way under the lever for each gear like up shifting.
Up shifting is done 1 gear at a time. It's easier and quicker to get your foot on top of the lever for a solid up shift rather than having to find you way underneath the lever between each gear.
Changed to GP style and love it. The first day i actually changed it right back at the end of the day. Then a few members talked me into giving it another go and now, after a couple weeks its fantastic. I dig it!!!

I was recommended to try it after a few Missed upshifts transitioning from a second gear left to a third gear right at the local track. Had trouble getting the boot under the lever while getting the body off the right side of the bike. Reverse shift pattern makes it a piece of piss to deal with. My only issue I've had is forgetting its reverse shift coming down from 5th gear turn to 2nd gear turn under hard braking and clicked up to 6th instead of down. Scared shit out of me. Now have my road bike set up the same to help get my head around it.
