Since I'm new here, hello to all! I recently purchased an 04' r1 UK model, And I live in NV. The display reads kph but I noticed in the sunlight that there is a shadow in the display next to kph that says mph. So it is there, it just is'nt lit up. I have the UK version service manual but it does'nt tell how to change the selection. Any help???
Also i've tried to set the clock per the manual but the clock never starts to flash so the digits can be changed??? :dunno

Thanks for the reply Sal, but all the information contained in the owners man. is also in the service manual that I have. Neither tell me how to change from kph to mph. And the clock issue seems to be a malfunction, as I AM able to use the select and reset buttons together AND independantly.

I have had success entering the diag. mode and setting the backlight and shiftlight, odo, trip. etc. So I know that each of the buttons work, I just cant get the clock to flash to allow a change to made to time. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Does the gauge cluster use it's own microprocessor or does the ecu procces it's functions? Perhaps mph or kph readout is determined by the ecu and it's country of origin?:banghead:

Try this.
Turn the ignition on but dont start the bike. Go to the mileage reading of the bike and press and hold both buttons down for about 10 seconds. you should see it change to MPH or the other way around!

Thanks- I got the clock set by starting the bike first and then holding the buttons for two seconds. The manual just says key in on position...hmmm??? KO POS. works for backlight and such..hmm??? As far as the kph to mph no luck. But I do have a bad speed sensor(I tested it) and get a code 42 instead of odo reading when in KO POS. Tried it with it running so I could get the odo up but no luck- I'll try it again after I replace the speed sensor and repost the results. Thanks for the help-

You're odometer should be wrong as well. When you go to register the bike (if you havent already) make sure you calculate KILOMETERS to MILES when you write down the mileage on the new title. Otherwise you could lose some money later. When the speedo reads kph, the odometer will be in kilometers too
