Turn bike on - wont start - err 54 displayed on dash, red immobilizer light flashes 5 times slow, then 4 times fast.
Also "HI" shows on the dash.

Bike turns over but wont start.

Have looked up the 07 R1 service manual under diagnostic codes, but there is no error 54 listed in the list of codes. Im guessing this is because I have a Euro/Australian bike with the immobiliser and the code relates to that?

Tried to go into diagnostic mode - dash won't go into diag mode.

Background - had to swap ECU's (got a 2nd hand one) because bought the bike after a crash and prior ECU was fried (Err1 & Err2 on dash).

This ECU gives no Err1 or Err2 - just Err 54 - whatever that is. Please help, this is driving me insane.

If the new ECU have imo you have to use the ign..key that belong to that ECU, or more correctly the transponder that's in the ign..key.

If you have the original key(s) for the new ECU you may have to use the red registrationkey once to get the imo unlocked.

Thank you for your reply. Ok, so code 54 is imo related?

Ok - I have the red coding keys fo rboth ECU's. However, of course the RED key for the new ECU won't turn the ignition barrel.

To try and cheat it, I jumpered the two wires coming from the Ign switch while the RED key for the new ECU is in the barrel in the off position.

Now I get code 51. Same thing, engine will crank, but code 51.

As soon as I replace the red key with the right key for the barrel and try to crank, it reverts back to code 54.

So... progress sort of, but same end result.

Is there any way to separate the key part from the transponder part maybe so I can have a coded key that turns the ignition barrel?

...or is all this just chasing my tail. Is there another fault.

Does anyone have the fault codes from 51-54 so I can see the descriptions - then maybe I can understand what is going on?

I'm sorry, i havn't got the error codes for the immobilizer equipped R1 but from the blink combination from the imo lamp i would guess it have something to do with it, but i don't know for sure.

Some say you also have to use the matching ign..lock/transponder to get it to work, but i'm not so sure that's right.
