Hi guys, new to here, so excuse my lack of knowledge, i recently bought a 2013 R1, and has a stock standard battery in it, other day when i bought it, was riding it to my mechanic to get a road worthy and full mechanical check on it, i pulled over and stopped the engine as it was hot and i was infront of my friend that was stuck in traffic in a car, so as i turn it off the fan is doing it job to cool down the bike, literally the fan was on for 1 minute and the battery died... now a few friends of mine have heard that these r1 models have a common battery problem, now i want to change the battery and get the best one i can to try avoid this from happening again, lithium ion are the go now days with all power tools and phones and all new technology etc, is this the best option for my bike? i know they are super light weighing in sometime 2-3 kilos less but do they give any issues on the bike/ model? thanks in advance guys
No real issues, I have an AntiGravity from Yamaha in my bike. Only gotchas are they don't like the cold and may take a few tries to start, and they don't do well with parasitic drain such as alarms or the like that draw power even with the bike off.
ahh yeh nice, thanks for that, what model battery u got ?
and you have any thoughts on shorai batteries? just from what ive heard them two are the best ones to go for , antigravity being i think a bit better made quality wise?? corerct me if im wrong
I have the YTZ10-12 that's a direct replacement for the stock battery. I went this route since it has a three year warranty and Yamaha is willing to put their part number on it. When I picked it up from my dealer I thought they gave me an empty box, they're that lightweight.
I also looked at Shorai and AlienMotion, both good, but the above reasons pushed me to AntiGravity.
Another thing I picked up is an OptiMate TM-291 charger. It's recommended by AntiGravity and also has a Yamaha part number. The battery won't need much, if any maintaining, but if you store the bike for the winter it can be handy. I plug mine in on the weekends and it usually only takes 15 minutes to charge and optimize the battery.
I'll also add AntiGravity warranties their batteries for 1 year for race use. That means running the bike on a total loss system that drains the battery as you race. Find manufactures who will warranty the battery if drained too far on a regular basis. This is also why AntiGravity recommends the Optimate TM-291, it can recover most overly drained LiFePo4 batteries safely.

just had a look, went to buy it and get it sent over but took me to paypal page and then when i pressed continue in paypal, it cut me out and gave me an error message...fukkk lol
Send them an email, they're pretty good about replying. They're closed Sunday and Monday, but should get back to you Tuesday. I have to go by there tomorrow, so if you want me to ask them anything, let me know. It's a small shop, like 7-8 people working there and they're a Yamaha only dealership, so they know Yamahas.
Ahh yeh cool! Ill send them an email, i found a few of them
On ebay too, only question is , for warranty it doesnt say 3 years , it only mentions "Manufacturer’s prorated one-year race limited warranty "
