1999 Yamaha Yzf-r1 Rare European Edition

I am thinking of selling this one and getting a 05. This has been imported from Europe. DO yall think its worth selling it and getting an 05 instead because this is probably the fastest R1 i have ridden up to date.

I would keep it as a hobby bike or maybe a trackback. Keep it! It's not worth selling it or trading it in.

Invest money in some upgrades, and you'll surpass the 05 in handling department, if that's your goal.

It's a sweet bike, I don't think the upgrade is worth it.

There's no difference between that bike and a North American 99 R1 is there? Other than the legal stuff.

Used stuff:

Ohlins shock - $500
Fork kit (Ohlins/FG) - $300
Fork springs - $100
Handling done

Full system - $600
Filter - $50 or RamAir box - $150
Jet kit - $100
Flo Commander - $160
Velocity stacks - $100
Power done

Performance Bikes improved their R1 less, for 2000 pounds, and ran it against the new one. Was faster in turns, only lost on a long straight. Upgraded like this, it'll be at least on par, losing some power, leading in handling.

R1 difference

the difference between US and European edition is that European edition has a light cut off switch which comes build in to the bike. Plus It has 2 other switches for light that does'nt come build in US edition.

Hope you're joking. The painted tread screams squid. That stuff is worse than chicken strips. IMO

Keep it. It's a classic.
Fit a 02-03 rear shock and dog bone link. Upgrade the fork internals.
Nice!!!

Here's the link.

Turn an original 98R1 into something that can whip and 05 R1

Check out the dyno of the 98 and the 04. The modded 98 crushes the 04 in the low and mid range. There's no denying that. The modded 98 will most likely be a better, i.e. more fun, STREET bike. The 04 may be better suited for the track. Sport Rider did a similar article a while ago, although not as involved or as detailed as the one from PB.
