Yamaha VIN # decoder

I am buying a 2005 R1 on Saturday. The guy has the bike posted online along with the VIN #. I decided to try and look up the VIN # today because I was interested to find out the details (like where it was made and what number it was on the line and all that) and the website said that the 2nd digit in the VIN should always be a 'C' for Yamahas. The second digit in the bike is actually 'Y'. I tried putting in the VIN # and the website says "this may not be a valid Yamaha VIN".

What do you guys think? Maybe the guy just made an honest mistake and mis-typed the VIN?

This is the VIN: JYARN13Y55A002713

I am not 100% sure but I don't think mine has a 'C' and I bough mine from Yamaha dealer. Could be a mistake, but look into it!

^^ Thanks man that does help. I guess the VIN the guy listed is correct. Still weird that the website says "this may not be a valid Yamaha VIN" although maybe the website just wants me to pay...

I'm not 100% but I think the middle part (about 55A) means 05 build, 05 model. The 002713 is its build number.

What website are you using? I just bought my '08 & it is also "JYARNxx..." plus when I got insurance quotes they were able to tell me the make & model off of the VIN by itself.

Try calling your insurance company for a quick quote & they'll be able to confirm the VIN for you for free.

I thought I read in a post not long ago about a "C" being included if it is a Cali bike

How do you work that out?

My post shows the bike in question is a Cal-spec model, and there's no 'C' in that vin...

I know I'm in the UK, but I've NEVER seen a 'C' in any Yamaha vin number.

your bike is a 2000 or 2010? Itwas the 15877th off the assembly line that year. Doesn't appear to be a Cali bike
