Fvck I need to do the seats! I have an idea I want to run past any of you, and get your opinions on. We have a very good saddle shop here where I live. The guys does wonderful work, a master. Have any of you ever seen an R1's seat covered in saddle leather?
It is much stronger than vinyl, and easy to maintain. I know it would last forever.
What do you think?

not sure if your original seat is missing... if it is, i have a seat for an 01 that has a small wear mark that u could use the way it is or as a donor for re-cover if yours is missing. can have it free if you need it.

Couldn't you just order the vinyl you like and just have him use that? That's what I did its cheaper and if he is a *master* he shouldn't have any problems working with vinyl

No problems working with it, hell I could do it. I'm just wondering if anyone has gone with real leather. I'm just wanting to try something new, and maybe better.

With real leather, you'll run into the problem of it drying out. You would HAVE to keep it conditioned. As long as it is kept up, it will last you a bike-long time. I personally would have to see your idea of how you would want it to base my opinion on it. But on a "sport bike", the image in my head when you say a "saddle leather seat" doesn't really appeal to me. But hey, it's just my opinion.

And just for the record, I do ride horses and I publish a magazine revolving around horses, so in no way am I opposed to "saddle leather"

Right on, Flexxx. I'm just thinking some REAL leather would be nice. I'm not unfamiliar with saddles myself. I know how to properly maintain leather, and thought it might be nice for my seat.

Keep in mind also, real leather WILL show wear. It doesn't take much at all to get discoloration in leather.
