I had a new XB9r when they hit the scene years ago(thieves did me a favor and stole it). While the displacement is larger in the 12r, I would think I would have hated that one as much as I hated the 9r(no power, wooden brakes, crappy suspension, etc).

I say don't do it, but that's just me.

I had a chance to ride an XB9r a few times years ago. The short wheel base made the thing a wheelie machine to the point it was stupid. Was a blast to ride but I'd never own one.

Had a good friend that rode an XB12r for 5 years and spend a lot of time in the saddle of that bike. It was incredibly fun to ride for about 1/2 hour at a time, and then it got old. The bike will vibrate itself apart, most exhausts on them are stupidly loud, and that bike spent more time broken than not.
Most notably the rear exhaust pipe stud would continually shear off inside the head on the rear cylinder, and it can't be extracted on the bike. Time to pull the head off!

Took a test ride on an XB9r and couldn't wait to get back on my own bike. That was an hour of my life I'll never get back.
