I currently own a GSXR 1000 K6 with lots of upgrades. I am planning to sell her to buy a 2009 Crossplane R1. Everyone i spoke to has only good things to say about the 2009 R1. Would you be able to kindly tell me if there is anything I should look out for.
I had an 08 and an 09 and i wouldnt say the 09 is leaps and bounds better than the 07-08 in terms of streetability. Now if you want a bike that sounds bad ass with a very unique rumble the xplane will not let you down and if anything it will ruin you for life lol you'll have a hard time getting re adjusted to a regular inline after this
Love mine because it fits me.6' 2". No real problems with them. Lots of things you can upgrade to make them better. ECU flash a must! ask about mods done when purchasing.
I had an 04 for about 5 years.. I rode a 2011 & a 07.. Went with the 07. The 07 felt more "streetable" to me because it didn't feel so big, or like a bathtub such as the 11....So it comes down to what you want and what feels better to you more than anything.
Pros;
the sound is unreal
all round much more comfy bike to ride than my 08
On the track the low mid range power helps
Brakes are a little better than my 08
Cons;
Front end is way too soft, I have my preload out at 5 rings and the forks still bottom out under heavy braking.
Clutch tuck is annoying
Lacks top end power for Sunday blasts
You guys must be real racers if the top end is not enough! Mine pulls hard all the way to the red line, and will do 178+ with 6' 2" of me trying to tuck behind the screen. I guess enough is just not enough for some.:lol
The stock clutch pack on these bikes are terrible. Easily and cheaply fixed though but definitely something to be aware of.
If you live in an area that gets cold winters and plan to ever start and ride the bike in temps at or below 40 degrees, expect difficulties with that. I used to ride my other bikes down to around 10-20 degrees F, but the R1 starts to act up on cold starts even under just 50 degrees. 32 F and under won't start no matter what I do, but am hoping to work that out through tuning since I recently installed a bike-side tuning harness. Some people also have problems with their starters failing or getting too weak to start the bike, but this is actually independent of the cold start problem.
This bike is super comfortable for the street.... very surprising for a SuperSport bike.
Maybe consider getting a '12+ if you can afford it because the traction control system in this bike is absolutely top notch. It's completely undetectable on the street with how silently it does it's job, but it keeps the front wheel down and the bike sorted out about as well as anyone can ever expect.
