I had an 08 and top end power was fun... Its got zero assistance, no abs or traction control, when its cold or a little wet its all over the place (not in a nice way)
It's the best bike I've ever owned, the fun factor is unbelievable. Buy the 15 and twist your wrist... you will then be thankful you bought the 15. She puts a smile on my face every day!
Seriously, though; is it really that much of a big difference? I know the power is there, but as far as feel, agility, smoothness, comfort, etc... how does it stack up? I still and always will love the look and feel of the '08.
I'm still debating between a mint low mileage '08 or a new one. I'm keeping my R6 which is becoming my dedicated track bike.
The new R1 makes you feel like a hero.. It's rock solid(my 3rd R1). I currently have a Touno factory too and as special as that bike is....It ain't a new R1. Just my thoughts:grin2:
Here are the comments sent to friends after 1st spirited ride on the R1M
1) Sound is intoxicating
2) Quick shift and Lift control are lap time magic
3) Definitely "Track ready" suspension feel
4) Bad arss fast
5) Damn feels 600 light
6) Active steering dampener works at speed
07 R1 was 168rwhp, R1M is 185rwhp, "Dyno Numbers" the R1M feels like 50hp more than the 07/08, the power delivery is that much more throughout the power band. 07/08 has more top rpm range, but significantly less low grunt.
The electronics on the R1M allow for way more aggressive throttle use.
Knowing both bikes reasonably well, not much of a comparison, if price is not an issue, if price is an issue, a good priced 07/08 is an enjoyable bike, just not state of the art nor "Track Ready"
The 1 drawback on the "state of the art" bike is the on/off throttle response, it's like you start at 25% throttle as soon as you open just a tad bit, neutral corner transitions are sketchy to date. Both bikes had/have ECU's tuned to improve the off to on throttle transitions, the 07/08 was way more comfortable/predictable.
