02 vs 09 exhaust

I found a guy locally that has a brand-new Coffman Shorty exhaust for an 09R1. Was curious what the difference between that and my O2 would be? I have a high mount exhaust but looks like it just would come apart down by the lower faring. Maybe I am wrong. If anybody has some insight that would be great. I emailed the exhaust and you facture and awls I got was a "they are different set ups" really great customer service they have.

Two completely different systems on seperate engine platforms. You would have to do some serious cutting and modding for it to work.

Anything will work with enough skill/fabrication and/or cash. Would it be easy or cheap? No, and no.

Ya. Don't need to or want to spend a ton. Like my high mount but having a hard time finding a replacement in black. It's currently a LV Sbk aluminum high sport mount. Would love it to be black. The GP looks pretty sweet too. But might be loud and obnoxious as well.

I've had two different 2002 R1s. Now I have a 2003. Both years had the single exhaust off the side. Everything else thru 2014 has the under-tail exhaust.

Let's see your bike n0ob!

2015 MV Agusta Brutale 1090RR (Sex machine)

I currently am having my rearsets and passenger pegs powder coated. And in a few weeks braided lines and bar end mirrors. Stock decals should be here soon too. I like the no decal look but don't want to take the time and effort on the tank to do it. So I'm putting them back on. I've only had this bike a few weeks. Might wrap the exhaust with black wrap, leaving just the can untouched. Need to figure out if this is just a slip on or full system too. Lots to learn!

Since you're looking at just a slip-on, and the exhaust headers through the collector remain stock, you should be able to make it work. The Coffman replaces the undertail on the '09 with a shorty on the collector, just as it goes on the collector of the '02. The possible differences would be mounting points, the angle off of the collector and diameter of the slip-on where it meets the collector. These are not insurmountable problems but, worst case, may require the fabrication of a short section to bridge between the collector and the slip-on, which a good muffler shop should be able to do. Best case, it slips on and off you go. Good luck.

Do you have to leave so soon? I was just about to poison the tea.

Looks like a slip-on, looks like your EXUP valve is peeking out. Better pictures would help.

On a stock system, look for the EXUP motor and pulleys (circled in yellow, on the left) and the collector section that houses the EXUP butterfly valves (circled in yellow, on the right).

I'm still debating whether or not I like my high Mount pipe.
I have purchased a low mount Dan Moto to take its place...

And modding as in welding. Not worth the trouble of trying.

The Coffman for the '02 (black) doesn't look all that different than the Coffman for the '09 (blue). I'd try it, I tried a number of slip-on combinations when I had my '02.

That's nice. I was looking at finding the blue/black micron. Nice choice. I wish the cans were a little smaller for the year but love the high mount!
