Aaron's '09 (Not so Budget) Build

Hey guys, I've been lurking here for awhile now and figured it was time to get my thread started.

I started riding a couple years ago after getting off active duty. Start d with a '09 SV650 and within a month traded it (at zero loss) for a '09 R6S Raven "new" off the dealership floor (it had bees sitting there since.2008 and had 7 miles on it when I got it in 2013). This is the bike I learned to go faster on, too fast actually. Ended that love affair 5 months later lowsiding into a guard rail at 55+mph.... Nothing broken but I have some scars.

This was the point where I decided to take my antics to the track and promptly replace the S with a 2006 R6 track bike. KWS did a 636cc motor for me and with over 130hp on tap I began my track only adventures. CCS lv1 and 7 track days later I'm starting to not like the cramp ergos of the 600....

And here we are 😃.

The R1 is a Frankenstein of first gen crossplane bikes. The guy I bought it from said there where parts from a couple bike to make it complete. I.e. the frame isn't matche with the motor and some minor parts from other donors.

The main interest in this bike was its Superbike gusseted frame. I do not know where it came from for sure, some guys on Facebook say it was a father's build for his son... But which ever it is, I got a good deal and with its current parts, it's not a bad start for getting on liter bike intended for track riding. Right now I'm setup for the street with the light semi permanetly fixed, ready for easy removal.

It's not a looker, but she's functional and pushes my buttons! Now for a progressive Superbike build and we'll see where it goes!

-Aaron

Cool frame! We have a superbike head and some cam blanks that would really open this up..

I've spent some money with you guys before and I'll definitely need a head/cams in the future. Right now I'm concentrating on ride-ability and suspension. The SBU ECU unlock was the best money spent so far! And your linkage kit combined with my Attack Triples have made this a whole new bike.

Up next on the list is installing the Graves Clutch fix kit, YEC Springs and the YEC Slipper adjustment shims I bought last week from your FS thread.

You guys will be hearing from me....

YEC/Graves Clutch Upgrades

So I had some time on my hands this afternoon. Decided to install some clucth parts from Graves and YEC. Theses are going to be useful for the upcoming racing season. The YEC parts are the clutch springs, slipper adjustment shims and the necessary clutch basket nut. The shins are for decreasing the affect of the engine braking by slowing the slippers action. When installing the YEC clutch springs, Yamaha recommends using the shims to return the clutch back to stock settings. Stronger clutch springs have a side affect of reducing its he slipper's efficiency. For my bike I set the shims on the second to loosest setting to start out. I like a very stable bike under heavy braking.

Here are some pics, took me about 2 hours (made a mistake and had to go back correcting it).

"I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken."-Psalm 16:8

"Being still and doing nothing are two very different things"

During this down time I am reflecting on what it takes to motivate champions and how I might be able to improve/prepare for the upcoming season.

Personal:
-Loose about thirty pounds! (Yes I am a plus sized rider)

-Hone my mental approach to everyday tasks (how can I expect to be good on the track when off track I'm scatter brained)

-Improve mental focus
(focus and consistancy are key in every aspect of life and can be directly reflexed in lap time consistency)

So while I may not be adding a ton of "go fast" parts to the bike, there is progress being made. Lord willing I will be on track this December at Jennings working on my riding style and understanding how to ride THIS bike fast.

Ok guys it's been awhile since I've posted anything. Sorry for all the missing images, I'll work on getting all those back up.

I'm the meantime I'm going to be racing the Roebling Road round during the weekend of May 28/29.

Still have to wire the bike, replace the clutch plates, flush the oil, flush the coolant, flush the brakes, remove the excess street stuff, swap fork springs, install Superbike tail and go on a shake down run....

Wow guess I'll get off my phone and get on that! Laters
