So far my r1 is still completely stock and I definitely want to start buying after market parts but I really want to make sure I put the best parts on it. What's your recommendation for an air filter, best quality and power gain. I used to have a k&n on my r6, but I recently saw sone one put a bmc race air filter on their r1 and claimed it was the best
BMC race filter is a great filter but it won't filter as well as the stock filter. I would put it in on during a track day prep but slap in the stock filter back in for daily use.
The Sprint P 08 filters are great too and don't require to be oiled but currently they don't show any available for my 15 model.

this is why i did not go with one on my R1, had one on the R6 years ago and when i went to buy one for the bigger brother i started reading of folks getting all kinds of shit into their engines, it was rather clearly posted in several places if you live in an area with lots of construction going on, stay the fvck away... we've been under the freeway expansion umbrella for 6 years now, so glad i listened :fact
Under 10,000 rpm and under 100mph (less ram air) the race filters will not make much more power than a stock filter. That is why I recommend stock for street use. None of the race versions will filter the air as well as the stock one either....period!! It's all a compromise. Pick and choose wisely.
correct, filter starts making a difference at about 7500 rpm.. you can test this on any R1 as when your air filter gets dirty you will feel a slight hesitation (choking)
right around 7k rpm and it just gets worse the further into the bandwidth you go, most street riding (unless you're breaking several laws) happens below 7500 rpms
once you get above 10k rpm a race filter begins so shine, but whats the point in eating all that garbage day in day out 65% of the time you're out there :dunno
If your talking about the MWR superbike filter. Yes I have one.....over $200 though! The Op has a the last gen R1 and I'm not sure MWR makes a SBK version for a 14 model.
