Actually, "flight" kicked in first then "fight". This tactic is flawed because time is the enemy of surprise. The criminal still holds the upper hand whether he cowered in the store or left and came back in.

While again, the article doesn't share any actual details, I wouldn't want someone who is not experienced with this type of situation to try and resolve it on his own.

My issue would be someone who thinks they are prepared for something like this potentially exacerbating the situation because they really do not know a.) what to expect b.) how they will act under duress and gunfire.

Folks who have never been shot at think they can effectively resolve a situation with a gun; those of us that have been shot at know otherwise.

I agree with Frank about the guy running out of the store, then back in. That was not a good move at all unless somebody int he store was being threatened.....and that doesn't seem to be the case. Putting yourself back in danger is moot, though, because nobody ended up getting shot.
I understand his point completely. I think he went back because the manager was still in there but as Frank said the story is light on details. In the vid he did say the manager thanked him for saving his life.

Well it's all speculation. The way i saw it he intentionally went to retrieve his piece from his truck. Again you are correct that the details are light.

Your last point is spot on though, i haven't been shot at in combat but definitely in the street and it's no joke in either situation.

I didn't imply the being shot at part at you, I meant that in general.

The headline should have been:

Fake Beard Bandit gets Real Bullet in Worthless Head.

Unfortunately, lawyers are a much bigger threat to businesses than armed criminals.

The only way to positively control the situation is to drop the Dbag before he figures out you're armed. Yelling at them is useless and endangers yourself and everyone around you. If it leaves the holster, it should be fired.

What if ? Lol..

He had the gun on him the whole time and only said he went out to his truck to retrieve it because he knew he wasn't allowed to have it on his person in the store?

Tru that, just like throwing dumb sh!t out there.

*And doin Better, have a little story I wanted to share kind of related to what Frank just said but don't really writing down all the details. Long story short during hurricane I stayed home in a mandatory evacuated area. The 1st and second night we heard several Gunshots really close to our home. I always thought I'd be more prepared but I wasn't, m heart was racing and I tried to stay calm as unlocked my Rifle and ammo cans immediately. Only think I keep loaded is my Mossy. I hid my girl and son in the back room as I stood awake and on the look out for about 48 hrs straight. I live South of the last main road and try blocked all the traffic headed south, so looters were actually taking boats around to these areas and coming in from the bottom. Boy was I loaded and ready to shoot someone but I'm glad it didn't come to that.

Truncated link but here is a touch more detail. Only a touch
http://radio.foxnews...ed-robbery.html

Devin McLean and his store manager were about to close the AutoZone in York County, Va. when a gunman barged into the store.

“He pulled a gun from his waist band and demanded me and my manager go back into the office,” McLean told Fox News.

At some point, McLean was left in a restroom while the gunman made the manager open the store safe. That’s when McLean, a 23-year-old Air Force veteran, bolted through a side door and ran to his truck.

He returned through the front door holding a Glock 40 – pointed directly at the masked robber.

“I told him to freeze and to drop his weapon,” McLean told Fox News.

Instead, the robber took off – last seen running down the street from the store.

“I watched him run down the street,” he said. “I came back inside and made sure my manager was okay and he called the police.”

The York County Sheriff’s Dept. believes the bandit is responsible for as many as 30 robberies across the region.

“One of the officers asked why I didn’t shoot the robber,” McLean said.

Sheriff J.D. Diggs told Fox News he considers McLean to be a hero.

“He did a very brave thing,” the sheriff said. “He put himself in jeopardy in an attempt to make sure his friend was safe. He did a very brave thing.”

The part-time worker’s manager was especially thankful and credited McLean with saving his life.

But two days after the robbery – and just a week before Thanksgiving – McLean was fired.

The fact that he was in the service tells me that he most likely would know how to handle a situation like that which involves a weapon.

Not everyone in the military is an operator. Some never touch another weapon after qualifications.
