The more I think about it the more I think I'll just stick with my bastardized MTB. I already have street tires & 1/2 clips (traps) on it, may just go down one more size (thinner width) on the street tires

Looked cool in the movie, but real life is I'm 61 and not an experience board tracker or messenger

If you are really keen for it, do it, but don't buy a track bike(purpose built fixed gear), buy a "fixie"(road bike). Track bikes are a lot steeper in geometry, a lot shorter and a bit harder to ride.

Fixies are cool fun, but you have to ride them fast to get the most out of them. Plus, it's kind of true what he said in the movie about no brakes. It's fu*king stupid riding brakeless. You need lots of bike control to ride the bastards.

Throw some Continental Gatorskins slick on your MTB and you'll have a blast. Plus you won't blow your knees out.

Buy a set of these Ron.

They are free speed. They are long wearing, sticky and pretty much bulletproof. I ride through broken glass all the time and never get flats.

Amazon Amazon

I usually run Gatorskins and went a few thousand miles in Texas without a single flat. About 100 total miles since I moved back to Utah and I have gone through 2 rears and a front, all Gators. Not glass or nails, the stupid needles here covering the streets are horrible.

I do. Had the same problem when I lived here before, once got flats on 4 consecutive rides. My uncle has given up riding his road bike on the streets here, if he rides outside it is on his Surly.

Unless it is snowing (which it will be for the next 3 months), 95% of my commuting is via road bike. If my truck wouldn't have gotten totalled in a hit & run accident Tuesday morning (first police report of the New Year in Pleasant Grove) and I didn't have to blow my EF on a new car, I would probably be looking at more durable commuter bikes for the spring.

Bought that truck 10yrs ago for $2500, I got my money's worth and it was on its last legs. Was getting close to having to get a new car anyways, so as far as timing it was as good as it possibly could have been for some douche to total it and run.

I have been a living, breathing, version of Murphy's Law lately. Almost started a thread about all the ridiculous crap that happened to me over xmas break (ride home to California forgot me, GF was supposed to come down the 26th and she got a flat on the way to the airport so she missed her flight, flight home was cancelled and had to sleep overnight at the airport, then the truck...) Just moved here from Texas, the sh*t here is much better than what I had to deal with there. Good job, good GF, and 1500 miles away from the ex-wife.

Sorry to hear about all the problems. But, that statement alone makes it all worthwhile.

I have a very keen image of you riding around in search of glass. Then you come around he corner to find trails of pure glass to test out the tires and your eyes light up

I'm keen on acting the hooligan on my Mountain Motard. Inner city on a Monday morning after the weekend, there's a metric ton of glass everywhere.
