Harbor Freight tire changer?

Has anyone used this product, and if so, what are your thoughts? I am considering getting it with the motorcycle attachment so I can change my own tires before a race weekend or at the track if a tire vendor doesnt show up (happened twice at Nesba track days last summer and I was stuck changing with a few spoons and a plastic crate.....worst experience ever). Thanks in advance.
Ryan

For the price and ease of hauling around, I'd buy one of those to bring to the track.

Looks likes it's built decent.

Well, thats what I was thinking, but was looking for feedback on how difficult they are or are not to use. Anyone with experience?
Thanks,
Ryan

I bought one and can't figure out how to use the stupid thing correctly!! I've used the bead breaker part a few times than resulted to 2 tire irons . The part that actually clamps the tire tight is small also. I had to bend them up a lil to get a quad tire to fit. Also you have to build yourself a base that it bolts to or else leverage is a bitch. hope this helps

Thanks guys. Yeah, I am familiar with the low quality, but think I may give it a try. I was thinking of building a base in the trailer and bolting it to the floor. Anyone else?

The unit is a bit flimsy and the mount/demount bar is not good for motorcycle wheels. You'll scratch and ding your rims up if you use it.

This unit is far superior: http://www.nomartirechanger.com/
If it's too expensive for you, at least buy the mount/demount bar from No-Mar and use that instead. The No-Mar "xtra hands" clamp will help a lot as well.

Either unit has to be mounted to a secure surface with lots of room around to use without a ton of grief. Figure a 6 to 8 foot diameter circle with the changer in the center. If you're going to mount inside a trailer, that better be a big trailer...

I just went through the No-Mar web site and see that they now have a hitch mount, so you can plug the tire changer into your 2" receiver. Sounds like an interesting idea for track days...

You might get some use from the Harbor Freight bead breaker, but as was already mentioned don't use the mounting tool since it will scratch your rims.

Two or three tire irons and some rim savers are the cheapest way to protect your rims if you don't go with the Nomar changer.

ok, so i have used it a couple times and it works fine. the bead breaker is really rough on the rims though and the spider and rod thru the hub is not necessary to use. basically it is just very good at keeping the wheel stationary. not too bad for <100.

Hey ryan, not to jump in and change direction of this thread or anything, but Lithium Motorsports will be at all Midwest CCS races if some of the tire reps aren't able to change tires for whatever reason. Lithium offers full trackside support too see ya out there this year
