found these 2 ohlins steering dampers one said its electronic and one didnt ... which one would you guys go for and would the electronic one be hard to maintain. what would you guys chose
Manual... unless you have a R1M then you could get the electronic, but from what I've heard a lot of R1M track/race guys have switched the electric out for the manual.
Please note that the electronically controlled steering damper will fit only the R1M. The electronically controlled steering damper connects to Ohlins SCU (the suspension "ECU" that controls the front fork and the shock absober of the R1M). The base model and the R1S does not have Ohlins SCU.
thanks guy for your help ... yea r1m is what i want to add it on but had a feeling that the electric one might have some faults in it and know after what i herd about guys switching to the manual i dono.... but still want go for the electric .... did they they tell you why they went for the manual maybe the elctronic one did work well coz its quite new and not that developed well yet
I switched to manual and it's so much better than the OEM electronic unit. I talked to Dan Kyle and he said he's not aware of anyone who's running the electronic unit on the circuit. Good enough for me.
With the manual adjust you know exactly where you are at in regards to settings. Not everybody's preference is going to be how the bike(electronic controlled) thinks it should be....
There's a split second where the electric Ohlins doesn't engage, and when it does, you cannot predict how exactly it will react. The manual doesn't suffer either. There's a manual on my M and I've zero regrets.
I have an R1M and the electronic ohlins damper, it works pretty dam good...see video of me almost washing out the front...
