Thoughts on next years (2018) model?

I know it may be a little early for this discussion but curious on thoughts for changes. Last gen yamaha added cosmetic changes and TC on the 12-14. I'm tempted to hold out to see what/if they change anything. Mainly auto blip downshift.

it's not going to change any. they've said the old days of new models of the same bike every few years are over. it's business model cost too much to continue because sales are down too much. color changes and maybe a autoblipper if you're lucky. it took yamaha many years to come up with this one.

the example of this is the R6. almost untouched for 10 years. just minor improvements to bodywork and a revised oiling system because the 06/07 were blowing up bottom ends.

Yeah, I've figured no major change. Just the addition or option of autoblipper for example. 09-11 were otherwise identical with 12-14 minus the front fairing change and TC.

I'd goahead and buy a 2017 Tech Black model. You can add auto blipper later down the road and it would possibly be better than stock.

I think this one will be around for awhile too. When it first came out i wasnt sure because it was so different and tbh i preferred the 09-14 over it but now that i got over my chubby chaser phase im all for the 15 R1. The only thing she does need is a belly pan though

Thought about it but like that it would be covered under warranty. Had bad experience with my 14 and aftermarket parts.

There are many aftermarket belly pans available, just have to search for them.

I'd wait and see, and buy a leftover 2017 at a discount if there are no upgrades that you want :P

And if you wait for the 2018 model, might as well wait for the 2019 model. Might be a change for sure then.

They just changed a bunch of stuff for 2017 not anything you would notice yet but with what they just did there will be no changes for 2018

Auto-blipper, because why not? Everyone else has it as standard. Come on Yamaha, open your eyes and get with it.

My guess would be factory Auto-blipper for sure, corning abs and maybe some subtle bodywork changes.

The R1M will almost certainly get the 2nd Gen Ohlins electronic racing suspension the new CBR SP1/2 have.

Exactly. All the other jap bikes are offering it.

what do you mean by cornering abs? I thought the IMU in the R1 knows how far youre leaned over and sends this info to the tcs and abs. that's how the video yamaha had on their site made it sound.

The video is a little misleading with respect to true corning abs. While the Yamaha UBS does take lean angle information into account it is UNABLE to compensate for rider error, or panic braking during corning.

I went and looked at a 2017, I saw only two changes in total, two.

The engine casing is now black instead of silver, and the main nut on the triple now has some little indentations in it, that's it.

In other words, it's identical to the 15 and 16.
