Question

How many miles (km) on your bike? Any major problems?

I know reliability is not the favorite subject but i'm just wondering.

not time to your life.

36,000km of street and track riding on my 99. Honestly I have not had a single problem. I have done all of my servicing myself.
She burns a little oil but it always has and It really doesn't concern me anymore. Its almost like you didn't ride it hard enough if you can't smell a little oil burning.
tires, chain, a battery (but that was my fault) and oil & filters. thats it. steering head and all bearings are still fine.
hope that yours treats you as well as mine has.

Unhappy I bet I have the LEAST!!!!

I bet I have the least amount of miles. 3 That's right 3 miles on the odometer. I bought it during the winter.

But it sucks just sitting on it in the garage, just making engine noises.

I've got 9500 mi. on my 2000. The only problem that I have had is losing that damn gas tank bolt twice. Besides that, she has been good to me.

I've got just about 92,000 miles on my '99. There have been a couple of issues but considering the way it gets driven I really thought they weren't too bad especially since the warranty covered them.
I lost a tooth on third gear at about 48,000 miles and had pretty much the whole transmission replaced under warranty. There was a bit of wear on the second gear dogs where they engage so that meant first and sixth showed some wear. I figured since they were doing all of that I paid for 4th and 5th and had a completely new tranny.
The frame got a stress fracture where the rear subframe attaches to the main frame. A little weld could have fixed the problem, but again they replaced it under warranty.
Other than that, just the normal wear and tear items. I change oil every 3, 4, 5 I think even 6 thousand once on a long trip. I use the regular Yamaha oil and stock filter. I've only changed clutches twice, once at around 50,000 miles and then again this winter at about 92,000 miles. Changed spark plugs at the same time so only twice there also.
It does burn a little oil when ridden hard, my buddies complain sometimes when I am doing 2nd and 3th gear wheelies that I put out a smoke screen when I pull them up. Still runs great.
Lots of tires and a few chains. One fork seal. It's going in the shop next week for new bearings in the steering stem and swingarm and new shock linkage bushings. I put a rebuilt shock on at around 65,000 miles.
This is one seriously tough bike to hold up as well under the abuse it is subjected to.

My R1 has always been solid too, I think they're a pretty well made bike. I don't talk to many people that have problems with the motors.
