Graves vs. Factory Pro Velocity Stacks

So I'm looking at getting some velocity stacks for my 05 R1 and I'm wondering what people's preference is on brand. I've looked at a few brands and noticed that the Factory Pro stacks are all the same height, but Roth and Graves have two tall and two short. Does that make a difference? Are any of the brands better than the others? Will I notice different performance between brands?

The bike is stock now, other than flush mounts and levers, so this will be my first engine mod.

I'm curious to the price you are looking at for each. The Graves stacks for the current R1 are $970!!

From what I've read, the stacks on the new R1's are pretty complicated, not just a bolt on like the older bikes. That's probably why they're so expensive.

ive heard it will just give you better throttle response...but a particular brand dont think matters....

I've had both Graves and Factory Pro. I like the Factory Pros better as it makes the engine smoother on acceleration.

Supposedly all tall stacks give you a little better low end (good for street) while half tall/half short stacks give you better mid-top end (good for track).

I have the factory pro stacks on my 06 and absolutely love them. Fantastic quality and they sound awesome, not to mention smooth out the throttle quite a bit. Also running a BMC filter though, which definitely influences that.


Yamaha only said blue was faster to make up for their loss in sales for such a hideous bike color!

id go with the roth stacks. helps a lil everywhere but there is def a increase on the mid and top. josh roth has charts that can prove the increase with his stacks

Josh hasn't proven squat, he claimed a 10 hp gain with just slipons.

I went for Factory Pro's and love them.

I didnt like the idea of having 2 long and 2 short on a long term motor as this means 2 cylinders are always a little out of sinc from the other two.

Well, the reason I was asking was because of this auction on ebay,

Wasn't really planning on spending anymore money on the bike for a couple months but that seemed like too good of a deal to pass up. But unfortunately I forgot to bid and the auction ended

I guess for now I wont be getting my stacks, unless I come across another deal like that one...

Cylinders 1 and 4 have different intake port shapes than 2 and 3 on the 04-06 motor. Maybe Graves knows something you don't.

Mines a 99 with identical ports but the Graves for the 99 has 1 & 3 differnet to 2 & 4. I understand the point of the set up and for a race bike motor its not an issue. However, both the 1,3/2.,4 and the 1,4/2,3 setups can and often will set up harmonics that were the motor was not designed for. So for a long term street bike I didnt want to take the risk - and with 130,000 hard miles on it - I may have a point.
