Should I remove my EXUP valve on my 2006 R1?

Just liking for pros and cons about removing my exup valve. What do you all recommend? If it doesn't give you anymore performance then is it worth really removing? I do not want to lose any lower end or power in general. I don't really care about losing 1 pound if that's the main reason people remove. I do have a graves plug to prevent light coming on. Opinions are appreciated. Thanks

It depends on what else you have done or plan to do with it. Just removing the exup will mess up your fuelling. You'll need a Powercommander (or similar) and a remap, to gain any benefits.

When my 06 was mostly stock, all in one go I gutted the cat, removed the exup, fitted GYTR slip ons, Factory Pro velocity stacks, a Powercommander, and had it dyno tuned. That made a massive difference to the weak standard midrange, it revved up more quickly and made more power up top. But the biggest gains were in the midrange, right where you use it most on the road.

I do have a pc3 and car is gutted and smog block offs. I plan on doing the velocity stacks and getting a custom tune. Just looking to see if its worth taking off from people who have actually done it and seen results or not. Anymore honest opinions is much appreciated fellas. Thanks

I did the EXUP delete myself, even removed the flapper valve in the header. Im also running A&R baffles, and a gutted Y pipe. Its breathes like a FULL system now for a fraction of the cost of an Akrapovic, for example....... I obviously had her dynotuned with the power commander due to these changes and let me tell you, she is a beast! She "only" made 150 horses at the rear wheel. lol I know some guys talk of bigger numbers in the 150's but im pretty happy with 150 and my set up. instead of really coming alive at 9K rpm's, its more like 7K and the front wheel is coming UP quick.
i say delete it all as long as you have a PC3 or 5 to get it tuned for your air/fuel ratios.

jcobb, would be interesting to do what you did. since I'm replacing my cylinder head, had to take off the headers, noticed the two metal cables to the exup where actually broken! So, i would like to just remove this exup valve and just cover the hole. But I don't have a power commander. is that really needed, is the bike gonna give shit without it?
Also, what is the flapper valve in the header? Did you buy the plug (exup eliminator)?

what i did, i cut the valve connected to the exup (the valve is the flapper inside the headers) so the outside of the exup looks the same but the inside doesnt have the flapper/valve anymore. i bought and installed a dynojet exup delete. and a tune with power commander is very much needed to actually make the bike feel alive!

Well unless you have a tune on a Dyno and have it jetted properly and what not, You will lose some lower and throttle response and torque On quick acceleration. Something that you could almost described as a flat spot. The design of the exhaust Being so big in diameter is to give the bike flow at high RPMs to produce more upper end torque and horsepower, While the Exup system was implemented to allow for those increases at higher rpm's and still get the bike the back pressure needed for low-end throttle response.
