I ride a lot on the street and do several trackdays a year...
Was thinking if I should drop a tooth off the front (countershaft) Sprocket of the 2016 60th Anni R1 I have...
I have a buddy who swears by that sprocket mod on his Black 2015 R1 and insists I go and use it on both road and track, as we dont do top speed runs anyways...
Is that a good idea? ...( dont really care about fuel mileage)
I made a change on my 06 after riding the bike with stock gearing for 5 years knowing I never go past 140 or so these days to 2 up in the back and 1 down in the front, bike is so much more fun now.
Better off going up 3 in the rear chain excessively rubs on the chain guide -1 up front but not a big deal I guess Yamaha made it easily replaceable without having to take off the swingarm.
LOL it doesn't rub the chain guard with -1 tooth on the front. You realize that the diameter of the front sprocket minus one tooth is probably about 2 or 3 mm...and the radius change is probably about 1mm...
Dude comparing your but on a seat and a chain riding on a guard are worlds apart not even close comon and 6300 miles is nothing you gotta ride more man I do at least 8k a year and i don't even use it for daily driving also yours is not 2015+ so it's doesn't matter
To be honest the gearing you guys are talking anyway leads me to believe you don't go fast often so don't really need to worry about it.what nobody enjoys 190+
I seriously doubt you do either. If you do I'm sure you don't hit that speed very often being there aren't to many places, track or road, where you can reach that speed.
I dropped one tooth in the front and it was fun on the street and much less clutch slipping to get going fro a stop. However on the track, I put it back to stock. I can ride most of the whole track without shifting, which is almost like cheating
The chain guide is $31 and some change. I would not worry about it, just keep an eye on it.
