:riding Okay, the weather finally looks like its going to be nice for a ride, and we all better take advantage of it while its hear. This could be one of the last nice weekends, so if anyone is interested, lets get together for a ride and possibly an afternoon lunch. Spent 5hrs. and 250 miles on the bike today going to Nashville, and riding on among others, 46 and 135. How about meeting somewhere in Nashville next Sat. Oct. 23 around 11 or 12? If anyone wants to ride down there from Indy, I will be leaving from Fishers. Let me know. Cheers, Ryan

sat. is probably out for me. my mother is coming from ohio and it's my wife's birthday. sunday??? maybe. i would have loved to made it today (17th) but it was pretty damn cold as early as i would have had to leave to make it there in time. i'll let my friends know and see what things look like as the weekend gets closer. someone up in that area needs to get something going for next year when it's good and warm. talk to a hotel and see about some discounts on rooms for a huge group and start getting the word out and see if we can't work up a few hundred sportsbikes all together on one weekend.

I hear ya Mike, that would be fun. As for Sunday, I am in if we start earlier. I have to be back in Fishers at 5pm, so I would have to leave that area at 3pm. Temps look to be in the 70s-80!

Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok...so the ride goes to Nashville..as in TN right? Starting in Indy? If that's the case, I'm in Greenwood, southern side obviouly of Indy right (literally) off of 65 and exit 99. If you want, we can meet down here, there is a Kroger with a huge parking lot off exit 101. That, or somewhere else around town...though i don't know all of it yet. I'll take a leap and say...10am Sunday the 24th?

10-18-2004, 10:27 AM
I hope you're kidding about Nashville, TN. There is a Nashville, IN about 45 minutes south of us here in Greenwood. Take 135 south until you get to a tourist trap.

Sabian
10-18-2004, 10:33 AM
Ok...that's what I was hoping. I was just checking. I have friends in TN...and that's like a four our car ride.... Nashville, IN is the stuff then....still...Sunday at 10?

Just to reiterate what is going on here...Sunday looks good for most, but if the weather looks good for Sat. and bad for Sunday, it will be Sunday. 10 or 11am whichever day we pick. Meet at the BP gas station at the corner of 135 & 46 in Nashville, Indiana. Ideas about roads? Joe, I know you are good with the area, what do you think. Lunch? Where? Just throwing some things out there. Let me know if you are going down from around Indy and we will meet up to drive down together. Ryan

Ok, so you are in Fishers...thats on the north side right? I'll ride down to Nashville with ya if you want to meet somewhere. I have no idea where I'm going so a tour guide would be nice. BTW, I'm Zach. Who is everyone up in here?

argibson
10-18-2004, 12:54 PM
Hey Zach, Fishers is on the Northside, just outside of 465. From Greenwood it is about 40 mins., but since we are headed south of you, I can meet you somewhere near Greenwood if you want. Also, if you want a tour of the city let me know. My wife is out of town Wed.-Sun. and it is supposed to be nice. Ryan 317-418-3818

Ryan-- I have a cousin of mine up in Carmel...I know abouts where you are at. We can chat a little later, but meeting in Greenwood off of 65 would be fine with me. As for before that, my bike is being shipped to me at the moment, and won't be here until Friday, in which case I have family I am entertaining until early Sunday morning. Which is why I am only available to ride (when I kick them out) on Sunday. I'll keep in touch though. So who's on in then? Sunday if the weather holds, sat if it doesn't?

From Nashville to just south of Shoals will be about 80 miles. There is a place to eat there in Shoals, the food is ok. When done eating, we could run 450 back to 58 and then to 446 north, which has some fun curves on both sides of Lake Monroe. yoderbike might know of a good place to eat around there. Depends how quick we ride and how soon we leave BP. You might have to cut out early and take 37 north out of Bedford back to Indy on the return trip. Bedford to Indy is only about an hour at normal pace......Bedford to Bloomington is maybe 15 mins. I am going to make a post over on the FZ1 board. 11am at the BP in Nashville on SUNDAY.....unless weather is looking like crap then it will be 11am on SATURDAY. Standard wait time is 20min. Well if you guys are planning on coming all the way down to Shoals, I couldn’t possibly say no. I have no clue how to get to Nashville from here but I’m sure I could find it, however; I’m not real sure I’ll make it there by the time you guys leave so just keep your eyes opened for another group of crotch rockets along the way. We’ll turn around and catch up. but i'll try to make it in time. As for places to eat around here. Not much. There’s a bar in Loogootee (about 8 miles from Shoals) but the food is over priced and not all that great. The best bet on food is to stop somewhere in Bedford. the Old Windmill is a pretty good buffet with some good home style food. If we can get a high enough “for sure” number of people I can call a few places and check on some discounts. I’ll be there. I’ll call some friends and may be able to get anywhere from 2 to 25 more people. Kind of up in the air as to who wants to head out with it cold that early. But I’d say I’m about 97% sure that I’ll be there with 2 other friends. The roads down here are alright. 150 is and 450 are about the best. 50 is a blast between Bedford and shoals but it’s known for cops and they don’t like you taking the turns at 110. But if you want to chance it, it’s loaded to the gills with some long sweepers that just let you guzzle the gas all the way through. One favor to ask though. I’m missing a license till February 5th. If a cop pops out I’ll give somebody 100 bucks to run so they go for you to give me a chance to turn around and run the other way. Well, keep it in mind. Just let me know for sure what the starting point is and how far you guys are planning to ride.

Dont know about Nichole, but will find out. She gets on the chat board on 317revolution.net , sounded like she rides pretty good, and was interested in the ride. I hope so though, although I am retired...trying not to be a hater now. lol. Yoderbike-> mapquest shows Loogootee about the same distance and time to Nashville that Fisher is from Nashville. I did it last Sunday at 9am and it wasnt that bad. In addition to the fact is going to be warmer this Sunday, it is ususally 3 degrees warmer down there. I wore thermal underwear and jeans, leather race jacket, neck gator, helmet, regular leather shoes (not boots), and gauntlet style leather gloves...and I wasnt uncomfortable. Hope you make it. Ryan

Then exit 37 onto 46 west. Follow the signs for 46 (you will need to turn left at the stop light that has Red Lobster on one side of the road and Best Buy on the other.) Continue on 46 west out of town........16 miles later you will be in Nashville. Go straight through the first light in Nashville and the BP is on your left.

I'd suggest that when we get everyone together, someone bring a map, and we can figure out the ideal route to take. Seems that more than one person has an idea or a wish to hit some roads. Since I for one know where none of these are, I'm just following the crowd. Also, this would help some of us that are like me, in that we then might have an idea of where the hell we are all at. Anyhow, we'll figure it out...seems we have quite the group joining up here....

I will print out some maps that pelicanr1 posted awhile back and I know that Joe knows his way around pretty good;probably others. As for getting there, 65s to 46w into Nashville is the best way to get there from Indianapolis. Why don't you guys from Indy go down 135, it's quite a bit shorter, and a better ride than the 65/46 route. Meet up in Greenwood, take Smith Valley or something over to 135, and head straight to Nashville.

PurdueR1, have you taken this route down there before? If so, how long do you think the riding time would be from Castleton, if we took 465 to 31 south, then took southport road over to 135 south and down to Nashville? I am trying to figure out if it would take longer. Last Sunday it took me 1.5 hours riding time to get down there taking 65 south to 46 west. Thanks for the input. Ryan

Where I live is in between 65 and 135, close to 31. I almost always take 135 down there, just because it is more fun. It takes me around 45-50 minutes depending on traffic. Taking the 65 to 46 route is a longer distance, and I would think it would take about an hour or so for me. The problem with 135 is traffic can suck on it sometimes, so that will slow you down. Nashville is southwest of Indy, and the 65 to 46 route takes you southeast first, and then you have to come back west. And those times are from my house. It takes me at least 10 minutes to actually get on 65, and about 5 minutes to 135.

Hey guys and gals, thought you would like to see the turnout for the ride today. I counted 21, and although there were a lot of people, the riding was decent. Too bad many of us had to get home early, but hopefully we will have another good weekend this season. Mike, did you get good video? Can you download and email me? Ryan

Good ride guys, I want to do it again ASAP before the white death comes. There is a group from the FZ1 forum that rides about 3 times a month, I'll be sure to keep a post going here everytime we set something up. Joe (guy with the Mohawk)

Hey, I just wanted to let everyone know I had a great time. Road hard a little and everyone stayed safe. If something else is set up some time somebody on here e-mail me to let me know. Ryan: yeah, I got some good video. I have to wait for the disc to hook my camera up to the new computer but I’ll put some of it on here once I get it. EVERYONE: I’m setting a ride up for next year to raise some money for a children’s park. It will start in Evansville or Princeton and run to Rising Sun, Indian. I’ve talked to Grand Victoria Casino and gotten them to give me the banquet hall, set up the stage, use of the sound system, serve a FREE dinner, give a section of the parking lot for a bike show, and give everyone 10 or 20 bucks to go onto the casino. We should get a couple hundred bikes but the goal is 500. It will be HUGE and one hell of a time. Keep your eyes open for more info. I still have a few things to get set up before I start to really advertise it. But thanks for the great day. I hope everyone made it home safe.. Take care, Mike (middletonmd@hotmail.com) The one with the real mohawk.

great time today guys. i got back to my house at 5pm and had ridden 400miles. I just wish that i would have been able to ride the twisties a little bit longer before i had to get back. I think we definantly need to do it again. argibson- thanks for setting this up and whenever you need someone to ride with, just drop me a line. that goes for everyone.

Yamahamer, Thanks for the post, and thanks to everyone that came out; good times. Cant believe that you came all the way down here to ride, or that you RODE to Deals Gap...you must have nerve damage in your ass! lol. Next time, maybe we can go longer. Joe (and anyone else that lead), thanks for keeping us from getting lost somewhere in podunkville. Anyone that rode today, hit me up if you want to ride or for whatever. 317-418-3818. I am going to start a new thread in the R1-012 Attack Pack forum so we can all stay in touch over the next few weeks and maybe get another ride together. Look for "Indiana Riders." Talk to you all soon. Ryan

Ya, thanks everyone. Indy riders: not sure who it was, but the guy that had the silver 03 r1...went down around 37...wish him my best to get that back together, and if he needs help, I know some places and people that probably could hook him up.
