Hi all.

I have a 1998 R1 and i"m having a slight problem with the front brake sticking.

I use the bike 24/7, its done 13,000 miles and is garaged. Had it since September and now we are in deep winter i find that every morning when i leave the front Pads are jammed solid to the disc. I have to drive it to free it. I have tried parking it overnite without using the break to stop or stopping with the rear break, i have also tried wheeling it around before i park up for the nite.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers Ree.

OK this is an R1 trait,it is no big deal really. If you have mechanical ability remove the front calipers and disassemble them and clean everything. What is happening is dirt, road grime, etc is building up and making the caliper hang up,also if you have not done it you need to change the brake fluid,I went to DOT 5. Higher boiling point and does not get cruddy looking as fast as DOT 3

It might be that Your brake pad is rusting to Your disc ive seen it on Mine after a rain or washing. Try to snap it free without riding it then look on the disc and see if You see a imprint of the pad. It rusts very fast!! Yes overnight if the conditions are right.

I too use my bike 24/7, commuting, stunting, touring, whatever and I find that the pads rust(?) to the discs if left for any amount of time, even overnight sometimes. Could be warm pads+cool air=condensation=rust. No big deal, so far.
