It's an 04 with less than 7500 miles, you can't register it in Cali as it's a 49 state bike.

It's just California BS. Bottom line is that ALL the '04 R1's are legal to be titled and registered in California regardless of mileage.

The issue is that on older bikes, where manufacturers made a specific CA model to comply with our more stringent emissions standards, you are not allowed to bring a 49-state model into the state and register it unless it has at least 7500 miles.

Not all 2004+ R1's are California compliant. If you look at the owners manual for a 2004 model you will see two model numbers, specifically YZF-R1S and SC. Digging further into the manual, you will see that there are California only features related to the charcoal canister and associated vacuum hose routing (evaporative emissions system).

The features list on the Yamaha website lists California compliant for both the 2004 and 2005 models. Having the feature on the list does not mean there is not a separate model for CA.

It would be nice, but it is not that easy to bring in a 49 state R1 into Cali.

still 7800 no gear with it i gave the helmit to my bro. only mods done are front and rear signals.. no time to ride it bought it in june the bike only has 1072 miles on it.. its been parked since september.
