2005 R1 Forum East Coast Convention at Deal's Gap June 15-19th

Ok, it's that time again this will be the Official thread for all the info for the 2005 R1 Forum East Coast Convention at Deal's Gap. I will make all changes and updates here on the first post Also, this is NOT an R1-Forum sponsored event. It is a bunch of us getting together for a really cool extended weekend of riding and hanging out. Everyone is welcome. I did a poll and the week of June 13-19th seemed to work well for most. This year we will NOT be there at the same time as the FZ1 Owners group. That should be a positive for us. We will have the place to ourselves, plus we can set up where they normally set up. Which will be at the end of Shuckstack Road. Much more room for everyone there. Here are the details to date: Date: June 15-19th These are the dates that it will Officially be going on. I already know that several guys are wanting to come in for the whole week. That is fine. I have already talked to Fontana about that. I would make it a point to try and get there by Wednesday or Thursday, you will love this place during the weekdays! But you MUST tell them you are with the Yamaha R1 Forum Group VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just got off the phone with John at Fontana. We have 20 reservations at this point for cabins. I am not sure how many people are in each cabin, but he said there are not very many left!!!!!!!!! If you have not made a reservation call ASAP!!!!!!!! 1-800-849-2258 tell them you are with R1-Forum www.fontanavillage.com And if you don't get what you are looking for ask to be on a waiting list for what you want, you might get it if it opens up. It would really suck to not be able to get a cabin at Fontana:yesnod There are other places to stay but you want to stay up there with us for sure. As or right now the Inn is already booked for a church group. Rooms may come available, but none are at this time. I suggest getting a cabin anyway. You can come out a lot better and they can get you closer to where will be set up in a cabin also. And to be honest some of their cabins are just a cheap as the Inn Rooms. Look at their website and inquire of them by phone to make your choice. 1-800-849-2258. I would suggest making reservations as early as you can, everywhere fills up that time of year up there. Make sure you tell them you are with the R1 Rally so you get the special rates and so that they put you with us, if there are any problems ask to speak with John or Debbie or just let me know. They have blocked off a section for us. So start making reservations as soon as you can. For the guys coming up as singles I would suggest getting together with other folks on the Forum and splitting the cost of a small or large cabin. There are gonna be several cabins available. Some of them brand new! Cabins are running low from what everyone is saying, but there is still the camping grounds for those of you still thinking about going, get a tent and turn this into a sweet cheap trip. Everyone is welcome – but please realize that this group is made up with many types of riders of different skill levels and desires. This is not about getting together to race, or to drag other people into riding above their limits! Everyone is expected to ride at their own pace and have a good time! Ok, now for the good part. I'm 50-50 right now.... waiting on news of a raise. Gotta fix the bike then save up the cash. Where's Jim? Any other Canuks coming down? Chad, most likely I'll be on the beach in Puerto Rico during that week but I'm sure there will be plenty of times next year that we will hook up.

i just called and reserved our cabin but they cant get us our cabin we had last year. they have it all the way up to the 17 but it is booked for the 18. i just booked it at another cabin. it is a little more expensive but we will be in a nicer cabin. we will figure the price out here soon.

i would say try and get a cabin with 4 to 8 people in it. just put a thread up asking for roomates are the best give it a few weeks sure there are people to stay with like wheatmen or someone. you still need to come ride with us

I have gotten a few PM's with people trying to get in our cabin. Right now it looks full, however I am going to get a second cabin, so Southern118 can be in charge of booking one cabin, and myself, or someone else can book another right next to his. We need to be on Shuckstack Road, as that is where the nightly festivites will be. (It will make it eaiser since I am bringing the food). I would like to cram the cabins as full as possible to keep the cost down, but if anyone would like a little more space mabye we can cram one cabin with the cheepo's like myself, and have one with less people. I'm just trying to help everyone get enough roomates to keep the costs down. So far it was going to be myself, Southern118 plus a guest, Skeeter, jwsmithjr, bigpoppapump, gpd270 plus 2 maybe 3 guests, ...and I think that's it. So if we can get another 5 or so people who want in on a cabin with us, we can split it up and reserve two cabins. anyone who needs roomates, post on up!:thumbup

I'm on the phone right now with fontana villiage. WHO'S NAME is the first cabin under? So I can try and get the cabin next to yours. OK... well, I have a cabin reserved on Shuckstack Road. 1715 is the cabin number that I will most likely get. The reservation lady says there are 4 three bedroom cabins on Stuckstack Road and she believes that 3 of the 4 are reserved now for the R1-forum with mine being the 3rd. Who else has a cabin now?

I have mine reserved on Shuckstack too. It is on the right side all the way at the end on the hill. I told them to save one more for me are that will be for the SpidermanSS and his Posse. :D

Pete, that's a great idea on trying to get two cabins next door to each other. This is going to be great with most of the cabins on that road going to the R1 Forum. Not like last year when Scot and I were trying to find our Inn Room in the dark after leaving Chad's cabin with all that bud light in our system. :beer This will make it even better for those who like to drink a few brews and BS each night like last year. Scott {GPD270} did one hell of a job on planning our rides. I had the time of my life on the Skyway. Plus, we must eat lunch at the TWO again!!!

yea our rides start early and end around 5 or so. that is enough riding. then it will be time to start drinking responsibley. no one needs to start drinking before they are in fo rthe night. everyone should be walking distance from each ohter

sounds like one hell of a time. i went down there for the first time last summer and LOVED it. even though it's in the middle of the week, how are the cops going to be with all the bikes coming??? i hate those blue lights. and it seems they aren't real fond of me. also, is killboy gonna be set up down there in the gap? if not, let me know and i'll get ahold of 'em. and not to take away from this event, but i'm setting up a ride for next september too. everybody check it out. we're try for at least 2000 bikes. and i'd love to see the sportbikes be the majorty. http://r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=106258

I am getting so anxious to get out and ride, weather sucks up here. We are done until at least march. The cheaper the cabin the better, I am in with boxing. we a bunch of broke riders.

And Even though all of us will be there you will not really notice a huge difference, there is always a lot of bikes there during the summer. And yes, I am sure killboy will be setup. We had over 120 FZ1s show up for our gathering. :yesnod The FZ1 rally will be the weekend of the 10th-12th. http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28615 Here are road maps of some good routes to ride down there. (thanks goes to vmi2k2) This one goes down Rt 28 to Rt 64 and then loops back up to the Blue Ridge Parkway and back across Rt 19. This one is 212 miles.

Here's the Gap/Skyway Loop: This one is 136 miles

Here's a loop around the National Park. This one includes the "Road to Nowhere." This one is 166 miles.

I agree, since I started doing track days last year, I have mellowed it out big time on the street. Funny thing is last time I went to the gap with GPD270 I crashed when we were taking it easy....guess I got lazy because we were off our normal pace :lol

our normal pace is alittle bit above the speed limit and not straight up and down

I reserved my cabin for the whole week... arriving on Monday June 13th and departing on Sunday June 19th. Hopefully there will be alot of people that will come for the week. Whoever wants to stay with me is more then welcome... first come first serve on the bedrooms. So if any of you cheap asses want a bed room, let me know. :riding

Just reserved a "Dogwood" for $79 a night 2 bedroom 1 bath, no a/c, no tv, etc. They said 80% of those are on shuck rd. Paid 1 night stay as a deposit. I didn't make it to the last east coast convetion but did at one other smaller gathering, if anyone remembers when I made it up there is this the same place we stayed at?

I reserved it the 15th through the 19th but may think about coming up earlier in the week.

Good deal. THe Dogwoods are nice. And there will be plenty of guys there earlier if you decide to do that.

The 6 of us from Shaw reserved a Laurel cabin, were coming up on Tuesday through Sunday. As some people already know were in charge of the drinks for the cookouts. We can get all the drinks real cheap during one of the case lot sales at the commissary on base. Just waiting till it gets a lot closer to determine how many to get.. dont know call them up and see what they say. best thing you can do. i will be riding everyday except probably friday afternoon until sunday. i might go for a few rides but nothing fast becuase it is to crowded and to many cops then to worry about.

OPUS, they should have it up on there at some point. I emailed them about possibly doing our shirts so they know about it. Broken, that time of the year is sketchy. It could be fine, but it could be iced over. I remember Earache went through there last year about that time and had pics of snow and ice. But if no weather systems have gone through it should be fine.

What’s your cost? As long as she’s not going to have to just sit around by herself with the kids she may come. Both of mine are boys. She can watch your kids so your wife can ride and as long as your wife can handle mine maybe she could return the favor? I’ll know next Monday what days I’ll be able to get off work. They are planning the vacation schedule for next year this week.

I’ll be there either way. It’s just a matter of whether or not the set up will be nice enough to keep my wife from yapping in my ear all week. If that’s going to be the case she’s much better off at home. Life is much better that way.

I don't ride with passengers anymore but I know my wife would be happy to watch them at times, however as of now she's to scared to leave our daughter with people we don't know. Right now I'm in a dogwoods which is $79 a night. Thinking about switching to the magnolia if one's available. But it's two and half times more. But has three bedrooms, and if people don't mind (I don't) living room space.

Is the horseback riding up there where they follow the trail and crap? or can you actually take one out where you want and they're not trained just to follow one another? I hate that trail only crap.

I run the supercorsa's at the Gap and pretty much where ever I ride. This year I may run some Dunlop DOT Race tires, but they would be equivelent to the Supercorsas. They do pretty good at the Gap. Mine have always been takeoffs, so I got them cheap. It will be cool to actually put on a New tire:D

I bought 1 front and 2 rear supercorsas today from Chip too.... one for the track day and one for the gap!

Yoderbike, so your in Loogootee? I went to college in Vincennes and grew up in New Albany. I used to drive through Loogootee all the time going back and fourth to Vincennes. The venison would be nice. I've got a full freezer of it too.

Yoder, I'm in South Central Florida now. I love to turkey hunt too. A buddy of mine is a Conservation Officer up in IN near Rising Sun. He's my guide when I go up there. Southern, give it time. I'm sure we will have lot's of people for the '05 convention. People are just trying to deal with the holidays.

I was talking to my buddy who sells Pirelli in my area to the racers... and Pirelli is coming out with a few new tires next year... look out for the new "supercorsa pro"... and a new rain tire... where did you get the tires from??? most guys get the SC1 front and SC2 rear

Dude, that's just freaken crazy. i moved to rising sun from ohio and now i'm in loogootee, and we both went to VU. that's just odd. rising sun has some awesome turkey hunting and some killer roads to ride around there too. it's not quite the same since the casino moved in. but it's still a great area. KEVAP, how much room do you have left. i have a few people that are looking at going if they can get a place to stay for pretty cheap.

A good way to save on tires is: 1 buy take offs. and 2 buy tire warmers (you will get a lot more life out of them by not going through so many heat cycles. Plus you can go faster:D.)

THe cabins I have been in have seperate rooms. I am sure they are all that way. they have many different styles of cabins. Hope you can make it fjorn. yoderbike-129 is about 7 miles from Fontana, but hwy 28 all the way to it rocks!!! So from the time you hop on your bike all until you bring it back to the cabin to park it there are good roads.
