East Coast Convention Food Collection, Need your Food money ASAP!!!

Okay, it's time to start getting things organized for the R1-Forum convention at Deals Gap. This year I'm going to be in charge of taking care of all the food related work. (jwsmithjr, and bigpoppa will be helping me in this too). This will include collecting the food money, and purchasing and bringing all the food to the convention. The price will be $20 for each person. We are eating 4 days this year instead of just three. This will include dinner Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. So far I am planning Chicken for one night, pork chops for another night, hamburgers and hotdogs, and I still haven't planned anything specific for the 4th day. Here's where you guys can help out, I'm open to any and all suggestions as to what you guys would like to eat for the last night. (obviously since were on a $20 dollar budget lobster will be out...lol). Of course we will have side dishes with each meal. So let me know if there is anything specific you guys would like, or NOT like for side dishes, other wise I'll pick stuff that most people enjoy. Dinner will be held at one of the cabins on Shuckstack Road, once I get the cabin number, I will post it here. ($20) R6-Forum Members: Okay guys, this is whats going to be on the menu as of now....I'm fairly sure on the main dishes, but I need some ideas on the sides, so let me hear them! Wed: Hotdogs and hamburgers (I'm thinking this for the first night, just because not everyone may be there on the first night). Potato salad, baked beans, chips. Again, the sides are not set in stone, so feel free to add some ideas! Thur: Grilled Chicken. It will most likely either be chicken quarters, or breast...not really sure yet, going to depend on price. corn on the cob, some kind of chips, and maybe macaroni salad, or a garden salad. Friday: Beef, and chicken shiscabobs (lmfao, I butcherd the spelling on this one:crash ), maybe baked potatos, and what ever else you guys can come up with. Sat: PORK CHOPS as the main dish...again I need some help comming up with some side dishes so we don't have to eat the same thing each night. of course we will have an assortment of bevrages. (everyone is on there own for alcohol however), and a bunch of chips, and snack type food. Okay, so let me know what you guys want for some side dishes!!!!!!! :dunno

Just dont let Bigpoppa near the food....he'll be injecting everything with steroids :fact :lol

How about some bbq ribs or lasagna! What about for lunch, is that our own individual resposibility? Do they have bbq grills at the campsite or somewhere we can cook? Holla back!

Holla back! Everyone is on their own for lunch, which works out good because most people break off into smaller groups and are gone riding during that time anyway. I'm glad you brought up the grill, they don't have any grills at the cabin, so we will need some volunteers to bring a few grills to cook with. I don't care for the lasagna. :ugh Burgers and hot dogs would be fine by me for the extra night. :yesnod Oh, I could probably get some MRE's if you guys really want to go all out.

I agree with Aron213 about hamburgers and hotdogs on Wed night. Easy and Cheap is always good. :D Plus, we most likely won't have the full crowd eating that night either.

Not too late at all. As long as I have the money from everyone a couple weeks before the convention

I have a propane Fire/Ice Grill from Home Depot. Not that big but you can probably do 10 Hambgers and 15 Hotdogs with Case of beer in the cooler below. BTW: If anyone is thinking about it, it was only $150.00 and everyone loves it! Voodoo

if you soak the corn for about an hour hour and half in the shuck then throw it on the grill it works great also. it just burns the shuck if youhave the flame to high

and REMEMBER guys if you plan on drinking Fontana is a dry town, and you can NOT buy beer there, so you may want to bring it with you or stop in the last town I believe it's pretty far to get some.

yes it sucked last year becuase we couldnt go no where and get beer without going like an hour away

Closest place is probably Bryson City. Maybe 30-45 minutes from fontana I believe.

I will be going into Maryville while im there so I can probably pick up booze/beer during the week if anyone wants it.

So, who all is planning on staying the whole week? I was probably coming in Wed morning but if there are going to be a lot of you there before then I may come in on Tuesday.

If we're able to make it (still working the wife over), we'll probably be there Wed-Sat.

What?? Where the hell was I then?? I only remember one meal (hotdog and hamburgers), and half the forum peeps weren't even there yet, so I helped myself to their share of the bounty, haha. I'm working on coming... I gotta fix my bike first then see how much cash I have left for gas, hotels, etc. I think all said and done I spent $350 Canadian for 7 days of travelling... I've been in contact with Jimsab too, so we'll see what happens.

I know we still have 142 days, but the sooner we get all the money in the eaiser it will be for me to have an idea of how many people I have to buy for, also I can get some prices from the meat market. I just don't want to bring enough food for 30 people, and have 40 more people wanting to pay me at the Gap. I'm only going to buy enough food for the members who have paid. If for some reason you absolutley can not send the money before the trip but still want to eat with us, shoot me a PM and we can work something out (I can front the money and you can pay me then), I don't want to do this unless there is no other for you to get the money in before hand. :thumbup

Chad, perhaps we should consider making a sticky right here in the Forum/Convention Events. That way more people would see it since it would stand right out. We can set a date that the money must be paid by and make it clear if you don't pay by that date then you are on your own for evening meals unless you've made arrangements with Pete. Lot's of people will forget about it or put it off until the last possible minute then try to pay at the gap. All this just makes it harder for Pete to get things set up.

I was just thinking maybe we needed something in a title saying " Pay your food money ASAP" and close the thread so people can't post whore it up. Then, as they pay, Pete can add their name on the list he has. But, I do understand what you mean about not trying to confuse people. Just a thought.

Last year I wrote a cheque and put 'US FUNDS" in the 'MEMO' area. When Boxing brings it to his bank they will make the conversion based on that days rates. OR I can do a money order where my bank does the conversion and then Boxing just has to cash it.... Yea You and I know what's up because we have followed this thread. To someone that just see's "PLEASE PAY PETE" and looks at the first post, they really don't know what they are in for. With the menu on the first page, not only will they see what's up every day, they can make suggestions! At that point we can either add them to the menu (per other post here if others aggree) or not! In either case, it's visible exposure to either "PAY PETE NOW" and see what your paying for! Voodoo

corn on the cob was mentioned, baked beans are pretty easy, potato salad is good but hard to make and keep fresh, you can buy salad in a bag? Chips, pretzle, party mix! Baked maccroni? Beef and Mac? Voodoo

For your grilled chicken night, just get big party pack with a little of everything (breast, wings, legs, etc). Probably cheaper and everyone get's what they perfer. Your doing Baked Beans on Wed.. Since they are farily quick and easy I would suggest doing it again Saturday as we would have 2 days off from beans. (not to mention, baked beans are cheap) My other suggestions are listed in previous post above. Voodoo
