Looking at white water rafting during E.C.C.

this is a great idea to do on like thursday or friday give me some ideas on where yall would like to go and who and we will set it up. Chad says that Nantahala is probably the closeest. I would like to get a group of atleast 10 up to do this. post up if you are interested in doing this. I will get a definate place if enough people are intrested . prices 40-45 for middle between a 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours 90-95 for upper and middle. 4 to 6 hour trip The rates can be cheaper depends on who we go with and how many we have. thanks for looking

Nantahala is the closest, but a bit boring and cold.. mostly class 2 riffles with 2 very unexciting class 3 rapids. The rafting is unguided. That is you put who you want in the raft and go. The Ocoee is another hour, hour and half away, but much more exciting. Mostly class 3 rapids with a few class 4's thrown in. The Ocoee is a better bet in my opinion. I doubt much else is running in the middle of summer, unless there's been some good rain.

Hmmm, we may have to hit the Ocoee then if we do it. Plus, if I am correct it has guided rafting. I guess we should check into both.

I've never went, although if enough people are interested I'd be willing to go. Sounds like some fun times. :rock

i went rafting for the first time this summer...went to some place in west virginia. i went with some people that have been before so we got on class 5 rapids...no big deal really with a guide. i wouldnt say overdue what you think you can do on many things but i wouldnt go on smaller rapids even your first time, they are smaller than you probably think. we went on some class 4's that were better than a class 5 rapid though. jumped off a rock on a big cliff and blood started gushing out of my nose when i hit the water. i think i was holding my nose but the force knocked it off. we got to swim a small swimmers rapid, that was fun as hell. we did a lot of swimming and just floating down river in between the rapids. its a hell of a good time and i would recomend getting a good guide. with a job like that you know they have to be fun guys so they wont burden your time at all.

Jeech
12-01-2004, 01:05 PM
yeah the Ocoee is guided. There are at least a dozen outfitters near the river offering guided rafts. Something to consider. Saturday rafting might be better than Thursday or Friday. There is less traffic on the gap during the week, better for riding. I would rather raft on Saturday when all the maniacs are riding on the GAP. You're also more likely to catch some ladies on the river on a Saturday.

good point that is really why i was looking at friday becuase it starts to get real busy but if i get enough people intrested i will call and see what i can do.

I"ve never done anything like this. How much :dollar are we talking? Also, I just saw the movie Deliverance for about the 10th time. We just need to make sure there are none of those hillbilly mofo's hiding behind some trees. :fact Cause you know this was the area where that movie was filmed. Could be some crazy ass inbreads still living up in those hills and don't know any different. If I hear dueling banjos playing I'm outta there. :fact

Deliverance was filmed on the Chatooga River and Talullah Gorge. (East Georgia - South Carolina Border). The only thing you have to worry about on the Ocoee is Mercury and Sulfur content. Don't drink the water

i've got a trip planned for the summer. it's the Nantahala, Chatooga, Ocoee, and Pigeon. Then hanggliding lookout mountain. there are going to be about 6 or 7 of us from my shop. anyone in here is more than welcome. i think it would be awsome to get a lot of people. the trip so far is going to cost around $1500, which is a little on the steep side, but it's a bad ass trip. oh, i forgot. skydiving in Alabama too. the trip is going to be absolutely :boobies

i called a was quoted prices today. they run between 40 to 45 and can be lower depends on how many people. second thing is if we want to do the upper it would be around 90. the accomidations they said tehy could make for us and our bikes. I really need to get a set number. Then we need to decide what we want to do the middle or the whole thing. the upper part was where teh 96 olimpics where done. it is about a 5 to 6 hour trip that starts around 9 in the morning so we would have to leave kind of early. everyone hit this up let me knwo what you want to do

But I am game if everyone else wants to do that. I can start a Poll in this thread if you want me too. Just tell me what you want me to put on it.

Yeah, I agree with you Chad. Six hours plus drive time to and from. Keep in mind that will be on a Saturday. We would still have to cook and get ready for the prize giveaways. A lot of things would be happening on that day for us to do. By the time we got done with the raft trip, in our leathers and back to Fontana it would be going on 5pm. That might be pushing it a little, but I'm in for anything.

the 6 hour trip would leave around 9 in the morning so we would be back around 2 or 3 to the rafting place and then could be back by around 4 or we could do just the middle. i have done the lower a couple of times and can tell you it is a great trip but i would like to do the upper and middle this time we can go on like a 4 hour trip that does the upper and middle that also leaves at 9 we would have to head out early to get there around 6 or 630 but im sure we could all handle that
