Well folks, I got my wheels the other day. They did a very good job. I can't wait to see it on the bike :)
Question...
I'm getting the tires put back on tomorrow, Should I put the disc brakes and sprocket on? or do I leave it until they've mounted and balanced the tires???
Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

jon:) :)

P.S.
I'll post pics as soon as I can

You want to mount everything that will be on the wheel (sprockets and brake discs). They are both part of the revovling mass of the wheels, so when you have them balanced, you want to account for them.

I have never balanced a motorcycle tire in my life,I know it is best to do so but I change my own tires and don't have a balancer so I just chunk em back on. I can see where you would want to with powder coated tires since you know they are now way out of balance:cool:
I WANNA SEE PICS:hellobye

Iīm also changing my tires by myself and only uses a
wood-balance-stand?? that I made. Works fine!!

I have also, like Twisted, changed my tires without balancing them (on a track day) and didnīt feel any difference!

If you mount them get some rim savers . I have cut up some plastic oil jugs to use so you dont mark up the rim too . Hate to mess up the new powder coating .

I will do that. Did you get your wheels balanced?
Oh yeah, how did you install the tire valves? I'm having a hell of a time putting them in. Thanks

I used the metal stems , they have a nut to install them . If you have a rubber one , one of those T shaped valve stem tools work to help pull it through . Just keep pulling and moving it around . I made a balance stand simular to the wood one in the other pic . Use some tape weights so you dnt chew the finish clipping the old ones on .

I have the rubber ones. I tried to heat up the wheel with a blower and put some 5w30 or is it 40 lol but still couldn't get it in. I'll try it again later when I get home.
hmmm....even if I have a balance stand, I wouldn't know how to balance a wheel. I think i'll just bring it to the shop and get it done right. Before I got the wheels powder coated, I took off the weight on the back wheel..but didn't see any on the front. Does yours have one?:rock

Mounting tires is easy, its busting the bead that sux. I use either the car lift at work or if we are out somewhere I use the kickstand on another bike(yes just set the stand down on the tire) After the bead is broken I use two big screwdrivers with heater hose on them and take the tire off, just like bicycle tires when you were a kid.

Wheels look sweet! :rock
Did you balance both wheels?

Rebalanced both front and rear. Also went ahead and replaced all the bearings too. Cost a little more than a hundred for all the bearings, but I heard if one locks up you will fall. Don't want that in the back of my head when riding!;)

The difference a wheel balancing makes can be very subtle, or significant, depending on the quality of the wheel. When I had the frame and wheels of my ZX-9R polished, I noticed a slight vibration in the front end at highway speeds, and it took a few weeks to realize the balance weights had been removed to polish the wheels. I got the wheels rebalanced and it was back to it's smooth as butter highway cruising. Balancing the wheels is recommended even if you can't feel a difference. The tires themselves will dampen out small problems, but they will do so at the cost of increased tire wear. May not seem like much, but for the costs of having your wheels balanced (I can get my wheels balanced for 2 bucks each. I get tires mounted for 6 bucks. Costs me 16 bucks total for both wheels), why not have it done?
