first off, Hi All
I have a 01 R1 and Im getting some strange tire wear on the front.
The tire isn't wearing smooth, it has ridges on it from groove to groove. If you slide your hand over the tire it will grab on the grooves.
I hope this explains it well enough.
any Ideas on why it is doing this.
BTW: I do a lot of cornering if that helps.

I believe it is called 'cupping'. I am no expert, but if it is I am guessing you are running Dunlops, probably 207's as well. Everyone I know that rides them gets that. I am not sure why, and I can only guess. Maybe because the compound is so soft that it pushes the rubber off of the tire a little bit. Ahhh, I don't know, only rambling. Somebody else might have a better idea, :beer .

joemt: i have always known it as "cupping" also. i don't know much about tire types or tire wear, but the guy at the local bike shop where i live says that the R1 cups more than any other. could be the bike, could be the tire.... i don't know...
gozz: you're not the only one, my front tire is cupped also.

It's normal.
It is the way the front tire wear. 'cose the front tire is solicitate by braking, cornering and turning.
No, if you do more cornering, it will wear more the way it does now.
My suggestion is, change the front in the same time than the rear.
