She revs a little high in neutral... feels/sounds like the choke is on or something. No throttle problems, but acts like she's getting power from somewhere..... Thoughts?

How high is high? Try movimg the choke lever back and forth to see if something stuck, have you done anything to it? Maybe a vac. leak. Does it do it all the time or just in the mornings when it is cold? Little info and we can help. Man are yall testing me today:D

Turn your idle setting down a bit. 1250 rpm's when warm is good

1050-1150 by spec, but what made it idle high in the first place? The idle is not just going to change on its own.

Not sure why it's high.... I just got the bike about a month ago. It's been too cold here to ride until last friday... about 48 degrees. Took it out for about 15 minutes at 11am. Is it because it's too cold or ? How do I change the idle setting? Thanks!

isn't 5,000 rpms the normal idle speed????

No just kidding. Hard to trouble shoot with no information.

Where are you? In Maine we have "winter mix" gas. It burns a little differently than straight gas because it has extra additives for the cold weather. Its suppose to burn more cleanly in the cold and create less pollution. Basically, it sucks. I've had some problems with it. When spring rolls around the good stuff comes back. Just more political BS to deal with.

something has to be stuck... clean carbs.. check wires and see if they are "rusty"...

Sorry Twisted.... It's Idling around 2000rpms... Is that about right? I'm coming off of a GSXR-750 and it used to idle around 1200-1400... Just wondering if it's just a different bike issue or not. Also, I'm in Northern Va... I tried moving the choke back and forth... didn't really do anything... When I have it on the wheel stand in neutral the back wheel rolls a little. The rpms are about 1200 on the stand.. When it's on the ground it revs higher sitting still like it wants to go... when i pull in the clutch the rpms go down a little, but when i put it in first it jumps because the rpms are up.... sorry just trying to give enough info...

1150 rpm is spec but you are saying it idles fine on the stand but not on the ground? Do me a favor and check the coolant level(dont ask why) I will get into that later

Okay... Checked coolant level..... it's on full...

OK the only thing it can be is either the choke is stuck or a vac. leak or one of the slides on the carbs are stuck. Time to pull the tank and airbox and look around

Have you tried adjusting the idle lower with the idle speed thingy on the left of the bike?(with the engine at operating temperature)

Okay Twisted.... I'll do that. I really appreciate all the replys to my problem. Hopefully, it's something minor. I'll also check to see if I can make a idle adjustment somehow. Thanks for all your help!

Absolutly try to adjust the idle first,it just bugs me that the idle got higher on its own:confused:

oh boy.....

idle speed per yamaha service manual is 1050/1150rpms;some like it faster because it makes small throttle openings smoother..but sometimes a big bang! when going from neutral to first gear is heard.

your carburetors need a synchronising job...plain and simple.

Thanks. Since my last post the problem has disappeared. Not sure what was going on. It has warmed up a bit here and I filled the tank with different gas. Since then I've had her out twice and she's been fine. Idle is around 1200 in neutral......
