Has anyone ever had the misfortune to crash while wearing nylon riding gear? I am thinking of stuff like the Genuine Yamaha gear by Henick Gering (sorry about the bad spelling). It has CE armour in it but i'm not sure how it would stand up to a major (or minor for that matter) crash.
Yea i know leather would be better in a high speed crash but it rains here (a lot) so any facts appreciated.

My friend did.... tore it apart. There went his $150 jacket. Go for leather man.

Thanks mate. Did he hurt himself? I only ask as distroying a jacket is not a problem if it saves your body.

The only jacket that I have seen worth a dam is REVIT'S. The salesman explained that all the current mesh's have way to much grip or friction. Went on to explain that revit developed a mesh that has the friction of leather ans slides like it. Hard to find though.

Leather is probably alot better, but anything with Armor is better than nothing... LOL I just bought the Feildsheer Mach1 mesh jacket with Armor. It has a liner inside that can be taken out for summer time. I will also buy a leather jacket for colder days. Trust me when I say any kind of gear with ARMOR is better than nothing. My Dad Totalled his 2002 VMAX going 140MPH, and Ripped his Tricep muscle of the bone which ended up by his shoulder blade, plus road rash in other places. Luckly it was really cold outside and he had like 3 sweet shirts on plus a pair of coveralls or the Doctor said he would more than likely had to have his arm Amputated. So after 2 surgery's he is back to normal but has pretty nasty scares. He wears all his gear now, and will never ride without it since that wreck. He said he crindges every time he see's riders wearing shorts and tank tops shirts. Whatever you buy WEAR IT, and ride safe..

I went down at 90 while I had on a nylon jacket. I was also wearing jeans and they were shredded with lots of road rash on my legs. My upper body was fine, not a scratch. The jacket was totaled and I learned my lesson about not wearing jeans. I do have another nylon jacket and Icon jeans that I wear when I’m commuting.

Does anyone know of anyone going down while wearing any Icon jeans and how they stood up to the crash?

buddy of mine crashed with a nylon jacket... not only did the jacket rip apart like a shark got at it; but the nylon melted to his skin... not a pretty site. The next day I got rid of my nylon jacket and bought a 2 piece leather suit.
I bought a rain suit from Teknic (50 CAD, goes over your leathers) that works amazingly well... got caught in a 4 hour downpour while riding on the hiway.... the only things that got wet were my gloves and boots (neither of which were waterproof)

My friend went down doing about 90 with a First Gear summer jacket. He slid for like 180 feet and the bike ended up hanging upside down from a barbwire fence.

The jacket did tear up and get ruined, but all he had was a scratch on his arm. Overall I would say the jacket did a good job.

If you think about textile protection, anything except Kevlar simply is stupid!
Nylon will protect you from rain and flies but not in case of a crash.
It will rip appart or even worse melt under friction.
That's what doctors like most:
Road rash, seasoned with road dirt and a nylon gratin on top!

For those who ride in jeans: the most critical part is the pelvis bone. Road rashs easily go down to that bone. The infections resulting from that normally cannot even be cured by the most powerful antibiotics...
Have fun!

My Buddy went down wearing a Joe Rocket Textile Jacket and broken his collar bone and the shoulder area of the Jacket came apart......I would go with Leather
