Hey fellow R1 Enthusiats & Owners! I have a quetsion that might sound stupid. but here goes anyway.
I have a 2001 R1 with the std. titanium pipe. I was wondering if there was a baffle(s) inside that could be removed (by drilling out the rivets)? I would like to make it a little bit louder w/o having to change the pipe.
Any input/ advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks & Take care!

Whatever you do, don't do this. It will Fuc* your carburation up to no end and make the bike sound like sh!t. If you really want to make your exaust louder just don't be so cheap and buy a race end can.
BTW............ There aren't any stupid questions, just stupid politicians.

Have to agree. Cutting up the can won't do any good to it at all.. it will just make it worse.. and surely won't sound GOOD.. just.. weird and maybe loud (not even sure it will sound more).

Thanks for the quick reply! I wasn't too sure about the info I got, but you guys make much more sense. & yes, I am a little cheap:D Especially since I just spent $10k for this toy and besides, the stock pipe is sweet looking too.
Could you rec. a nice sounding pipe?
Thanks again... Later

Check out MCN. They have a round up of pipe sounds.

Try to find the first part of the test. Those were the inexpensive pipes.

In the UK here you can pick up cheap alloy exhausts for 69ukp which is ideal if you want something cheap.
If you want something cheap but a bit better, blueflame do a titanium can for 170ukp! Must be the cheapest titanium exhaust atm, but its recieved some excellent reviews.
I personally think most Micron/D&D/Laser etc.. end cans are pretty much the same performance wise, and really if you want a decent one get an akroprovic or muzzy, but they are expensive!
Riser, I have to agree with droog and swedie... There's an old harley trick where the guys used to use a can opener (the one's that make the triangle shaped holes in those juice cans, from when you were a kid) and they would open up the baffles with a dozen or so triangular holes - the effect was like having straight pipes (which on a harley sound pretty good) however the whole point was that straights are illegal in most places, so if a cop pulled you over because your exhaust was too loud, they would test it by sticking their billy-clubs in the pipes...they would feel the baffle and couldn't ticket you (at least not for the exhaust) cause technically you had a baffle!! good trick right?
Anyhow, don't know if you've ever heard a jap bike run with no can or with a serious exhaust leak - but in short, the sound is plain shit! Whilst the stock can sounds like a blender, I guess you can say an exhaust leak would sound like an angry blender on crack and speedball!!! Please, you are technically creating an exhaust leak, so as droog said, your carbeuretion will be adversely effected and the bike will run like ass...
Go buy a micron - they sound throaty and make a deep roar, but they aren't annoying sounding either. Akra can's are nice too - not as deep but still nice sounding. Don't go for a Yosh though, they don't sound too great
