I don't have a high post count on this board but I have been lurking for a long time. I currently ride a 2004 blue R1 which is completely stock other than an Ohlins adjustable dampner. I've got about 10 years experience on 2 wheels. I'm friends with a director at Motion Research Corporation http://www.motionresearch.com/ and through said relationship I got some early access to their SportVue MC1 http://www.motionresearch.com/sportvue.htm heads up display. I did some beta testing and helped work out a few bugs. In the interest of full disclosure I'll say that I did get a free unit, but I am otherwise uncompensated by MRC and I'm posting an honest review followed by the text of a free offer they asked me to post. Please don't contact me about the offer, contact the email address below. I'm a gadget freak and when I first saw the MC1 I thought it was a pretty neat idea, but I couldn't really figure out how it would be useful while I ride. I thought it would be a cool toy with not much utility to me for how I rode. I was also very skeptical that it could attach securely to the visor and I was afraid it might block my vision. What I found instead was that the mounting to the helmet is quite secure. I've gone over 120 MPH with the SportVue attached with no issues and even dropped my helmet once on the SportVue without knocking it off. I've found that it doesn't block my vision in any way that affects me when I have it adjusted properly. I tend to see right through it and depending on how hunched over the tank I am, I either do a real quick glance up to see RPM/Speed/Gear or see it floating right at the top of my vision. One area where I've found it really useful is that I can finally see speed and RPM in corners. It's an interesting experience to go through a long sweeper, keeping your eyes looking through the turn and have Speed, RPM and Gear hanging right in front of your vision. All I previously had was the vibration of the bike and the sound of the pipes to tell how fast I was going. One silly benefit of the unit is that I don't have to frantically check my speedo when I see a cop either. :) Oh yeah, and it has a cool red glow. Here's the text of what they asked me to post. They are willing to do group buys if anyone is interested, and they are willing to work with getting demos to groups that are spread over geographical areas. GET A SPORTVUE MC1 FREE!!!
