04/05 Puig Smoke DB Windscreen .... Pics & Review

Just installed a Puig smoke windscreen on my 2005 R1 as shown in the pictures below. I have seen the likes of Z.G., L.P., Sportech, etc. in person and by far the Puig, I.M.O., is the best selection. Here are my brief comments on the Puig: FIT: The fit of the windscreen is on par with the stock windscreen. I do not seen any noticeable gaps between the windscreen and the fairing. A+ TINT: I purchased the smoke version because I really liked the "R" logo as shown in the pictures however the majority of the screen is not as dark as I thought it would be. Puig offers a dark smoke however this model does not offer the "R" logo. Overall, the tinting is noticeably darker than stock and the fading keeps the factory look of the stock windscreen. A- CLEARITY: Looks like glass. Period. A+ WIND PROTECTION: Beyond everything, this is the best aspect of the windscreen. At speeds 50+ you will feel a lot less turbulence on your chest and head area. A+ Hope this helps you guys with your decisions. Here are a couple pics: http://www.r1-forum.com/gallery/data/506/44307DSC00032.JPG http://www.r1-forum.com/gallery/data/506/44307DSC00017.JPG http://www.r1-forum.com/gallery/data/2/44307DSC00005.JPG

I like it.. I might just have to go buy one now. I've been running with the stock shield painted black but I sure could use a little more wind protection and it might be helpfull to get my 6'1" frame tucked under better. Thanks for the review. :thumbup

When I originally was looking for a windscreen I did not want a double bouble at all because I thought they looked too tall also. Eventually the look of the DB caught on and I decided to buy one. Having seen the puig in person now, it honestly does not look as tall as I thought it would be and I really like the look of the Puig DB on the 04/05 versus the stock. ZG's DB on the other hand looks A LOT taller than the Puig. Everyone has their own tastes but I cant see anyone being disappointed with a Puig windscreen now that I own one.

I just my Puig Dark smoke DB on last night and I have to tell you I was pleasantly surprised...I was kind of afraid that it would be too tall, other DB's I've seen on other bikes have turned me off...but the Puig flows w/ the lines of the bike like it was factory stock. The dark smoke looks awesome w/ the Shift Red. BTW it went on in less than 3 minutes, no hassles and fit and finish is top notch. Recommended!

Installed mine two weeks ago. Excellent fit and finish. Very easy to install. Highly recommend it and, as always, McCoy's takes good care of me.

appreciate the info on the windscreen. I've been looking for something to cut the turbulence on my 04 R1(silver). In your pics, looks like you have mirror extenders? If so, where did you find them?? I'm tired of tucking in my elbows to see in my rearview mirrors. I would be very interested in getting some....

Stupid question, does this manufacturer state that the screens are optically correct? You hear horror stories about melted clocks and such like. Just wondering, here in ozz it gets very hot some days. Nice looking product though and great review :thumbup

I just recently got my Puig today...(christmas morning:crash ), and while reading the warning, it claimed that leaving the bike in any amount of sunlight could create a magnifying glass effect from light reflecting off the windscreen and burning up something else on the bike. I do not however think this is a serious issue. I got a dark smoke db, and i really doubt if there will be any problems with the sunlight. gotta give it a test ride tho right... Thankfully I live in texas, and i can ride all year long...:riding ...:thumbup

I have the Dark Smoke DubBub PUIG and I love it...the windblast reduction is more than enough for me to worry about the extra visual height of the PUIG.

I ordered a Puig Dark Smoke DB for my '05 R1 about 2-1/2 months ago from my local dealership and can't wait to get it after hearing all the positive comments. The problem is they keep telling me it's on backorder and they have no idea when I'll get it. I think 2-1/2 months has allready been way too long but I guess theirs not much I can do. Has anybody else had the same problem??

i ordered the dark smoke and i love it. the reason i chose the dark smoke is because i wanted a screen that prevented the wires and controls to be seen trhough the other side. it is all really personal preference.

bluarewun- i have a pair of heel guards that are cut to match the exact sticker you have on your windscreen. i think they would look awesome on your bike. let me know if your interested, and i'll send you a picture. they are a silver matte finish and match the other items (rearsets and pegs perfectly). just thought i'd let you know.

Hey Guys is the Puig screens formed like the factory? (bend around the edges of the fairing) I installed a Sportech V flow transparent Chrome on mine and am happy with it but installation sucked. Some dummy at Sportech decided to make large holes and use plastic washers - what a pain. But it does look good.

The Puig screen could have been made by Yamaha. The fit is perfect. There is a reason why they're recommended above all the others. You won't be disappointed. I ended up going with the light smoke, but I wonder if I put a sticker over the "R" if it would hide it and look okay? I love that R1 sticker on BlueAreWun's screen.... -Sam

I'm not sure how big the R is on the light smoke, but the R1 decal may hide it ok, or maybe the "R" could be removed from the light smoke screen. I liked that decal, because it has the chrome R, and blue background and is in "go fast" script font. :lol That's an 01 R1 decal, it shows $6.89 price now. I'll be passing thru Indy Friday evening heading to Putnam.

Heres my Puig Carbon Fiber Wind Screen. I had the Dark Smoked one on there. But it did not fit right. Is it just the 2007 R1's that have the fitting problem? I've got a dark smoked Puig and there's a gap at both tips of the upper fairing (just above the mirrors where the locating slots are). My mate installed a Puig to his K7 GSX-R1000 and it fitted perfectly. Anyone else with an '07 having the same problem?

I am not sure if it's a sticker overlay of some sort or paint, but I cant imagine removing it without damaging the plastic in some manner (scratches, discoloration). As to the fitment issues with certain bikes, I found through ALOT of reading that it's only certain tints that cause a gap or fitment issue. Don't quote me on this, just what I found through reading peoples raves and complaints. I personally went with the light smoke Puig Race windscreen and had no issues, I previously tried a Hotbodies dark smoke windscreen and had nothing but issues.

Does the double bubble windscreen really help with stability at higher speeds? It is a noticeable difference? How fast are we talking about? I mean it helps so the wind doesn't hit you directly, compared to stock its higher so you kind of can tuck in and let the wind go over you. What looks better on the Raven? Light smoke, dark smoke, or black? Anyone have pics? I think light smoke, since the bike is black already, you want to give it kind of like an offset.
