Hey man, welcome to the forum. TN does require helmets, and I'm pretty sure NC does also. Ky is optional with some requirements. You'll probably need the mirrors also. Click on www.tailofthedragon.com (http://) for a lot of info on Deals Gap. There's up to date news on the gap, maps, links to other roads in the area, too. Speed limit on the gap is now 30 mph and heavily patrolled on weekends with motorcycles and unmarked cars. This will be my first trip to the R1 convention, but been to the gap about 20 times. :fork BluAreWun :fork

They will be a bit more picky on the Gap than they will be in the surrounding area's. Mirrors, Turn signals, visable plate, proof if Ins the whole 9 yards. Just ride the Gap before 10am and after 6:30 pm and you won't have to worry about it. That is for Friday - sunday.

As for riding full gear meaning helmet, one or two piece leathers, boots and gloves will be what most people will be wearing. Some guys didn't have leathers last year and wore jeans and did just fine. I think you'll feel more secure in leathers if you have them. Just ride your own pace and don't go over your head to try to prove anything and you'll have the time of your life. You might want to do the Gap early on Saturday then get off of it as it gets crowded. I've found it's better to ride it through the week.

If you come from a state that doesn't have helmet laws and such don't you conform to the state where the bike is registered? Meaning you ride up there without a helmet, they can't do anything legally? Same for different laws of say mirrors or whatever else.

If you come to a state that has a helmet law and you don't have one... a ticket will be what you get. That's why there are sites like this one.... :fact http://www.amadirectlink.com/legisltn/laws.asp

So according to that site we have to have a certain level of insurance also?

Originally posted by BrokenR1 So according to that site we have to have a certain level of insurance also? Yup... proof of basic liability but nothing more then what you should have down in Florida. It's not like a cop is gonna check the limits of your policy. They will check to see that you have insurance though.

Actually it is more than what we have down here, but according to that site we have to have liability at 10/20/10. But I thought there was something about Motorcycles not requiring insurance at all.

It should be automatic. Wear it all the time, make it a habbit. Do not make exceptions, wear it all the time, cause when the sheeet happens that is when you are not going to wear it and that is when you are going to need it.

hey guys-- here are a few more pointers-- Speeking from experience-- Do NOT pass a vehicle on a double yellow. There is cops in cars, trucks that have tinted windows that will ride the devil. They radio ahead to the SO, and will pull you over and fine you. They go exactly the speed limit, bating you to pass them. Do NOT pass a bike in double yellow--If you are riding in a group, and one bike passes another, even if you are both on the same lane, that is also considered passing on a double yellow. Make sure your plate is visible. If they can't see your plate in full view from behind--$75 fine. this is speaking from our trip last year, believe it or not, we were pulled over 7 times in 1 hr on Saturday. Rest of the week, we had no problem. Hope this helps- Marty

This is a quote from a post on www.easttnriders.com/ (http://) Deals Gap, Saturday May 21 "around 2 o'clock or so. There was 2 THP on motorbikes at the state line, a few THP and Blount Co. cruzing through the Gap, also down by the lake there was an area set up with 4 THP cars, 4 THP pick-up trucks w/ trailers ( inclosed ), 2 roll backs, and 3 more Blount Co. cars." This is the latest welcome wagon for all the visitors at the dragon this weedend.  :fork BluAreWun :fork

Try to find a way to put your tag on the back of your bike! I know it looks like sh!t but they will write a ticket! Me and wheatman found this out when he was pulled over at the look off and was off his bike shooting the sh!t with other bikers When the police pulled up and wrote tickets for improper tagplacement! They said it had to be on the very back! I think its bull sh!t but im rigging mine on the back so no harm is done!
