nabby 06-02-2005, 08:22 AM My 99 R1 has a knock from what I think is the clutch. It is only when I'm releasing the clutch pulling away that I can sometimes hear a knock. It sounds like a tight spot in the chain however the chain is brand new aswell as the sprockets. The clutch doesn't slip or anything and performs perfectly. As I said, it just makes a knock when pulling away. I've noticed if I slip the clutch more and gently'ish pull away it doesn't do it. Any suggestions would be helpful cheers.
nabby 06-04-2005, 03:04 AM Still after some advice, thanks for your time.
blur1 06-04-2005, 07:19 AM did it start when u changed chain and sprockets? yes.. then look no further than them....no then maybe a clutch issue.:hellobye
nabby 06-04-2005, 11:57 AM No I've only noticed it recently. The chain and sprockets were fitted in jan. The clutch feels fine and there is no performance issue with it. If I slipped the clutch longer then I normally would then it doesn't knock.
jerry gixer 06-04-2005, 01:20 PM yes ive got a 99 plate and this does it aswell so is it a common thing that these do as i dont know only had mine a week!
Rich99 R1 06-04-2005, 02:12 PM have u checked ur cush drive rubbers? because thesecan cause noise and snatcheyness is worn, hope this helps
nabby 06-05-2005, 05:08 AM I haven't checked the cush drive yet no, didn't think of that. They would be the original rubbers in there too so could well be worn. Would it cause a knock though. It is a very distinctive loud knock. And it'll only do it once pulling away.
Rich99 R1 06-05-2005, 06:02 AM that would b the time that u get the most shock on the cush drive and depending on how much play theve got could make quite a knock at pull off

forestR1 01-16-2009, 04:05 AM if it feels like a miss (most common in 2nd gear) when accelerating hard, the dogs are worn. 2nd connects to 6th vie dogs and because 2nd is used so hard and was never made real well the dogs wear out, this is normaly between 50,000- 75,000km, if this is the case it WILL GET WORSE AND WORSE, feels a lot like a very short slip of the clutch. at first it only happens once when you select the buggered gear, after a while it will start happening all the time, until that gear just becomes un-usable. to get it repaired in the shop you will normaly need 2nd & 6th replaced and a shift fork, which becomes stuffed as 2nd smashes 6th against it every time it 'jumps'. i had to have this done myself. (about $1200) mainly labour.
