Check out the forecast......... ITs going to be freakin HOT!

A couple things. You might want to consider a tank or tail pack to carry a small towel and some water and a hat. Its always nice to rest up at the looktout but there isnt really any shade (except on the hill) and you will be so thirsty and pouring with sweat. Thats why its nice to be able to wipe your face and drink some water. Otherwise you could ge dehydrated on the run back to the CROT.

Dont say I didnt tell you so!

We have a tropical depression forming in the Gulf right now just South of Florida. As of now the weather men are saying it's going to turn into a tropical storm by the weekend. Not for sure of it's path, but once it makes landfall and if it hooks to the East it will bring lots of rain to the Carolina's. Let's hope it tracks more to the West or falls apart.

On the last trip I spotted a place that I claim and name from this day forward as the "ZRider Underlook". Go just a little bit past the overlook on the left and there is a fine pull off on the right side that is wide, solid and totally in the shade.

Nobody ever parks there(but me) and it is about 15 degrees cooler than the overlook. I might even cache a cooler with drinks and water there for us. Ya'll still want to sit on a hot rock wall or come down to my place........?

Looks like you are right! I hope the storm makes a turn west. If the forecast gets up to the 70% to 80% chance of rain for Deals and northern GA, I'm out. No way I'm wasting money for 3 nights in a hotel for shitty riding.

I tell you boys are something.....looking at a weather forcast 8 days away. they can't even tell you what is going to happen tomorrow much less 8 days away:fact

Heck just two days ago they were calling for 0 chance of rain wed, thursday, and friday. So I wouldn't worry about the forecast. If you cancel a great trip because of the forcast you may miss out on a great time!! I know the first convention 3 years ago a lot of folks canceled because of the weather and it didn't rain the whole time. I poured for weeks leading up to it but once we got there....perfect! So don't anyone worry about the weather.

Plus, that tropical depression could go any way. They have no idea. They said that Atlanta most likely wouldn't get much if any of it. So I would think that would mean the Gap would be spared too. We just have to take our chances.

yea, I know its far out and could change. I hope it changes! But if on Wed there is still a 80% chance of rain for those days, its hard to argue with that. 20 to 30% scattered showers is one thing, but T-storms covering a large area is another. To say that I'm trailering a motorcycle with full gear to some of the best roads in the country for anything BUT continuous riding would be a lie. Sure there is the socializing etc etc but if I told you that for 5 days straight it would rain and you'd get no riding in I'm sure you'd be pissed. Luckily we have a few more days and the weather could change!

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I am sure it will change by then. Plus, even if it does rain for one day I seriously doubt it will be that way for an extended period of time...two days at the most. let's say a little prayer for good weather:yesnod

Hey, just got done watching the local weather and next week looks great, well, except for monday- now 80% chance of rain. Like was posted earlier, you can't go by the forecast, especially here in e. Tennessee! The way they talk, the tropical depression will only affect us in a good way...humidity will drop next week. Yes, it is hot here...just ride faster!

That must have been caused by that big high pressure system, mainly composed of R1's, centered over western NC, that kept the rain out of the area. :thumbup

Maybe that will work again this year!

It seems the gap is getting a little crazy. You guys seriously need to check the egos and focus on having fun safely. I was there a few weeks ago and several accidents were not avoided due to over zealous riding. Both were caused by one bike crossing center line and hitting another! It is a horrible gut wrenching feeling to see a bike up on the railing and the other in pieces on the other side of the road!

Have fun dudes...but seriously heed my warnings. I don't want to read about some dummy on here riding off the damn mountain or hitting a tree!;)

I totally agree. :iamwithst I'd sure hate so see anyone go down when it's supposed to be a fun time. All of us really need to be concerned with not crossing the yellow line and focus on where we are riding.

I'll tell you what... Last year, I was riding balls to the wall a lot of the time. This year, won't be the same. I've got waaaaaayyyyyy too much money invested in this bike now. There is no way I'm gonna ride like I did last year. So everyone can now call me Mr. Slow Poke. :yesnod

And I'll be the guy following Mr Slow Poke!!:D

My first time there and I don't want to spoil it with a ticket or worse. I'm just gonna sit back and take it all in. Next year though I'll push it a bit.

ok, there is no need to go balls out and crazy, thats for sure. But why have a sportbike, why wear full leathers, why ride deals gap/28/blood mtn at all if you are going at a snails pace? The whole point is to go somewhat fast, which = thrill and fun.

Tell you what, just one time get in with a group of cruisers and ride their pace the entire way. Your back, wrists, knees will hurt and you will be pissed. I had to do that once when there were a bunch of LEO's out. It completely sucked.

I wont get out of control, but I'm not going to kid myself either. I'm there to basically exceed the speed limit 75% of the time.

I've only gone thru the gap once on my R1, it's a lot different than my Ninja 6R was.
I felt like I'd never been on a bike before.
I think it was all the Sunday traffic, leo's, feel of the new bike, afraid of crashing it. :scared and the 8 bike fatalities locally and around east Tn in the past month, got my nerves on edge.

Not that I ever was very fast on the Ninja, but I'll be riding caboose on the R1 for a while.

Need a little hwy 28 and Cherohala Skyway to get me going. :D

C yall next week :hellobye
