Search for them under my name (sharkattack). I think the title of the thread is simply "Frame Slider Thread"

There would have been a whole lot more damage without me R&G. poopdar 05-02-2006, 08:43 PM frame sliders are the SH*T. I pulled a stupid move the other night and layed my bike down in the middle of the road. thank god for my sliders or my plastics would be F*ed. R1=DoMe=NorCaL 05-10-2006, 05:17 PM +1 on frames sliders :rock .Cheetah. 08-15-2006, 08:36 AM They will save your ass. But it just kills me when people go out and put these chrome and aluminum sliders on. Those are just for looks and defeat the whole purpose. A frame slider is supposed to slide and melt down, to stop the bike from tumbling. The metel ones just dig into the asphault and flip the bike. easter9053 08-19-2006, 12:46 PM I was considering getting some chrome or lighted frame sliders. DO they really make the bike flip if the bike goes down? Johnboy954 08-19-2006, 12:57 PM I have Harris frame sliders and love them the look and actual performance are top notch. Stay away from those cheap a$$ sliders that have the lights in them you want somthing that will actually protect your bike if you go down and not snap off when they are needed. IMO they look like trash anyways but hey that is just me Rowdy Rods 08-19-2006, 01:20 PM Originally posted by 02BlueR1Ky

Those are what you dont want. Think about it. Is metal going to melt down? No, it digs in causing more damage to the bike than it should. Now some aluminum are flat half moon shape and they are made to slide, those are nice as well (LSL Frame Sliders). Other than that stick with a full nylon slider. Just depends on what you like. Yeah and stay away from that light up bull shit. Don't get the ones that are no-cut, their junk. You want the most protection as possible. At least I do! SOLID nylon or the LSL's are the way to go.....*(For Me Anyway) greger 08-20-2006, 04:48 AM I got the lockhart phillips sliders with the aluminum caps. They look sweet. I have had to use them three times now. Two times they broke, not off but bent flat. Laid back the direction of the bike sliding. One time it saved the complete side. The aluminum does grind down because aluminum is a soft metal. They saved my bike from structural damage but was cosmetically trashed. I asked the bike shop about this bending problem and he said that all sliders will bend if you crash hard enough. ie..... louping from wheelies at 50+. have fun and be careless cadillac hammer 10-25-2006, 05:48 PM i have R&G sliders and I droped my bike off the race stand in a rookie move and the bike had not 1 and I mean not 1 scratch...it fell on concrete i might add. I have never heard of them, but looking at the website I would stay away from the aluminum sliders. Get you a good set of delrin nylon.... IRP, Harris, R&G, Shogun, are the top brands out there....:thumbup Don-Wan 02-27-2007, 02:35 PM Thanks!!! MrGibbs 04-11-2007, 10:44 PM Delrin is the way to go over metal, carbon fiber and the whole 9... another overlook aspect of the frame slider is the bolt u use to mount it. Like in the picture above, many times event the best delrin slider breaks at the bolt and causes damage that could be prevented. I've been searching on ebay and found a manufacturer, "T-REX" that not only makes a good slider, but gives you a good bolt. Here is their write up pulled off of ebay:
"The slider is made of Delrin Acetal plastic-An engineering thermoplastic with good strength, wear resistance and dimensional stability. It is more dimensionally stable than Nylon and used in many industrial ball bearing and friction reducing applications. The bolts are made of highest grade comercially available 12.9(129,000 psi in tensile strength). The special adapter nut is machined from grade 6 stainless steel. Rest assured that you are getting the best material commercially available." bug_eyedmonster 06-12-2007, 02:59 AM Hey all,
I just put on the R+G sliders for my 07 R1 on Saturday. I got the upper and lower frame sliders, bar ends (with weights), front fork protectors, and the tidy tail. I got them the same time my friend with his CBR600RR got them, and unfortunately, he went dwon on Sunday afternoon, a 30-40 MPH low-side in the back roads (Redwood Rd. to the folks in norcal). These frame sliders held up exceptionally well, saving his leg ad the bike. The CBR has only one set of frame sliders, while the R1 has two sets, and I am more then confident (knock on wood that it does not happen) that if I went down, the bie would be safe, and I would be safer then if I did not have them. I'd post some pictures, but my friend has asked me not to, but these sliders are worth their weight in gold!!!!!!!!
Jerry dbarocio1001 06-12-2007, 08:13 PM i would say go with shogun frame sliders and if you can, add the bar ends and rear spools too. saLem77 10-02-2007, 08:22 PM got mine frm Equipment Extreme......... JJR103 08-27-2008, 05:11 PM I have some Shogun sliders also and they are great. They are soft which causes them to grind down easily bringing the bike to a stop faster. Menyce 08-27-2008, 06:08 PM Has anyone actually seen a bike flip or grind into the ground with metal frame sliders? Seems to me like everyone has heard of it happening, anyone have after pics of a bike that went down with them on? .Cheetah. 08-28-2008, 01:18 PM Has anyone actually seen a bike flip or grind into the ground with metal frame sliders? Its just common sense.... Nylon melts, metal digs. Your sliders are supost give. Theres a lot better chance of not only flipping the bike, but breaking off your engine mount..... jlsparky7 10-07-2008, 10:23 PM I had sato frame sliders. Lowsided at mid ohio at about 50-60mph. Slider snapped right off the bracket and bracket bent. Wont be buying them again. Plastic is all fecked bar end is fecked and swingarm as well. Im gunna give the shoguns a shot fatbikez 10-08-2008, 02:43 PM good luck finding them!. Shogun has been a Ghost These days. I have a Few Intuitive's left. PM me if you are interested. Wasn't asking about common sense, I was asking for proof. Just seems like everyone hates on metal frame sliders and says they make bikes do all sorts of acrobats, but no one has actually seen this happen. R.Stunna 10-08-2008, 07:27 PM I actually have extended frame sliders from Freestyle Ingenuity. They are kinda strange looking at first, but ive seen bikes with them go down (minor)... and they do their job. clos02 11-07-2008, 01:37 PM I loved my frame sliders they saved my bike when i dropped it while washing it. it fell right on the slider .Cheetah. 11-11-2008, 10:43 AM Wasn't asking about common sense, I was asking for proof. Its not my opinion, its fact..... Metal digs, plastic melts. I choose to go with one that has a smaller chance of less damage happening....... Just me thou.... Welcome to the dark side pimpin.......:lol SykoKenDogG 01-12-2009, 04:09 PM hey guys, i got a question, anyone know if the R6 engine mounting bolt is the same size as the 07 R1? The reason i ask is the dumb ass clerk at my moto shop ordered me the R6 ones. I got them right as winter started and didnt get a chance to really look at them until now. Their return policy is 12 freaking days, so if me going in their irate doesnt work i'm stuck with these damn things... I figure i'll try and instal them later anyway, i just thought if anyone here knew off the top of their head i could potentially save some time. kunal 01-26-2009, 11:24 AM Has anyone tried the light up ones from Diamond powersports? .Cheetah. 01-26-2009, 01:42 PM Has anyone tried the light up ones from Diamond powersports?
Dont do it.....Seen a pair of those snapped in 2 at the mount before. That was from just a 15 mph lowside. A nice set of black nylons is what you want to protect your baby. :thumbup im2fast2furious 02-10-2009, 03:35 AM I bought graves protectors they look well and worked well for me important to get the clutch one to though Scotty8Walters 02-24-2009, 08:38 PM Maybe you could give us a few examples of brands to buy?:dunno It appears the ones I have might be sh!t then. I had a set of these and they worked great. The metal tips broke off on impact
and then the plastic melted and saved my bike. I bought them again. :thumbup fire343 08-26-2009, 09:46 AM I know I'm a little behind the times here. But I just figured I would throw it out there. There is a company called Motovation. They make some very impressive sliders. Have put alot of research into them, and seem to be a good product. They are made with delrin however are not completely delrin. | |
