: Pilot Powers
rooster r1 06-21-2005, 10:13 AM Recently had a pair of Pilot Powers put on my bike, was running the Dunlop 207s before. Let me tell you what a difference these powers are sweet. They seem to warm up allot faster then any tire I have ever used I ran the Sports on my old 929 and loved them, but they did take a long time to heat up.The Powers are a very sticky street tire I sure have allot more confidence in these tires when getting low in the corners and touching my knees down, with the Dunlops I never felt that I trusted them like I trust the Powers. Great Tire I will continue to run these ,will have to see how long they last though will post to let everyone know how many miles I get out of them.
Wr1duty 07-03-2005, 09:42 AM I am glad to hear some positive feed back on these tires. I just had a set spooned on to my rims last Friday at Dan Kyles. Got lucky cause every body is so busy right now with the MotoGp. But my bud Alex over their hooked me up. Got the bike put back together Saturday, and am jonesing to ride. Thanks for posting you thoughts on the tires.
pjr1racing 07-18-2005, 05:29 PM Here in australia they are the hottest thing out at the moment, no matter what you ride they are getting rave reviews. There is even a chick who comes riding with us in the hills on a white lightening Buell and she loves em. She is a lot faster and is getting a lot lower round corners as soon as my current set of dunlops bight the dust i will be fitting a set to my 03R1
SteelR1 07-18-2005, 05:36 PM Pilot Powers are simply AWESOME. I was running dunlops for 7 years and decided to try a set of Powers after reading all the reviews on here. They are so much better, I dont know if I would say they "stick" better cause my dunlops never let go or anything. They are just "shaped" different in my opinion, totally different handling style.
I have gotten 3500 miles out of mine so far and thats with 3 trips to the gap on them. One more trip this weekend (1000 more miles) and Ill be ready for another set.....
rooster r1 07-19-2005, 12:12 PM Wow, so it sounds like these powers wear pretty good I have put about 1000 miles on mine, thats good to know I have about another 3000 miles or so left:D :D
Wr1duty 07-19-2005, 07:18 PM They are great, for feel and grip. Looking forward for long hard thrashing with these tyers.
jreyes1 08-01-2005, 01:13 PM Does anybody know the difference in performance between regular off the shelf michelin pilot powers and the pilot power "C" front and "G" rear?????? I know there the OEM replacement for the 04&05 R1 but what's different about it????? Thanks
DouglasyzfR1 08-01-2005, 01:29 PM If you throw on a set of Pilot Race Powers with medium compound in center and soft compound on the sides you will never go back to Dunflops or any other brand again. atleast until someone comes out with something better...

i was told by a local speed shop that the pilot powers were a much better choice for the street then the power race.... have you tried the normal powers?
superdp 08-05-2005, 03:26 PM Y'all may want to check out the info at:
http://two-wheels.michelin.com/2w/front/affich.jsp?codeRubrique=2092004103725&codePage=2092004103725_07092004135921&lang=EN. I had good luck with them on the street, but as you'll see at the Michelin website, they have a max lean angle of 50 degrees. My local dealer said Michelin told him you can't ride on the last thumbwidth before the sidewall on a Power. Mine broke away on me on a 100+ degree day at the track at full lean, resulting in a lowside. Just a tip for those of you who end up at the track quite a bit.
superdp 08-05-2005, 03:29 PM With Power RACE on the other hand, you can scrape your elbow if you want.......

My brother just threw on a set of power races medium soft compound on his 2003 r1. I rode it and it just feels inbelieveably responsive. I cant wait to shred my 208's and pick up a set of races'. They are big wood though, since he paid $495 for a set installed and speed balanced. :beer
mikess 08-08-2005, 01:56 PM i had the d218 on my r1. didnt like them. got a d208 for the rear and i thought i was fast. now i have the powers. god damn! these things are awesome. had to do some major suspension tuning though. got a nasty push at over a 110mph. once my suspension was set though. i gained anywheres from 5 to 10+ mph in every turn. the stopping power is unbelievable. the 208 loved to slide. the powers rarely skid (unless theyre cold then look out!) i personally think the 208 heated up faster but the powers blow them away everywhere else. id say dragging peg on a city road is proof of a damn good tire.
jreyes1 08-08-2005, 02:07 PM Hey mike what kind of suspension tuning and how much do you weigh? and Can you explain that push at 110 mph. Thanks.
mikess 08-08-2005, 03:48 PM im 6' 0" and weigh 175 lbs.
front
preload-4 lines
compress-5 clicks out
rebound-10 out
rear
preload-level 4 from lowest level
comp-4 clicks out
rebound-16 out
im always messing with my set up trying to better it but this has worked the best so far. im gonna try and raise my forks another 2-3 mm. its 1 mm past the top clamp right now.
with the power my bike is making now since i installed the EMS is ridiculous and shes blasting wheelies everywhere.so i have to try to keep the front end down.
my push was in a exit ramp from a highway. its a circuit i run on some country roads with turns varying from slowest about 50 mph to highest 130+.theres almost no traffic on it and its awesome. the push occured on the off ramp at about 115 mph i went from the inside lane right groove all the way to the left lane left groove. i just starting getting on the gas in the apex and she started sliding. i shut down stayed leaned in and held on. she stayed up but it was an experience. my preload in the rear was 3 from the lowest then. so i went up one on preload and harder 5 clicks on compression. also the recommended psi for the front tire is 42. i lowered that to 36 psi cold. 42 psi rear. now i havent been to the track. (yet) so this is my "circuit" set up. its a street set up. the lower air press. helps absorb the potholes or cracks and divits in the black top that normally arent in racetracks so... i havnet ridden with anybody that can keep up on the street yet so i like to think im doing something right.
jreyes1 08-09-2005, 11:58 AM Thanks for the info. I asked because am going to the track this weekend and i just put a set of pilot powers and i will be paying close attention to my suspension setting perhaps do some adjustments. Thanks.

hey lemme know how those powers do on the track. i'm going in sept. and i just put some on.
my engine blew the day i put them on. i went for a blast from the dealership up to ct. on the way back to ny..my engine blew. i put 124 miles on the tires. they felt *****ing great. i'm just sad i haven't been on her in like 2 weeks. heres a pick of them damn near new. i felt i could have leaned over even more.i just wanted to break them in.
r1_dav3 08-18-2005, 07:40 AM thats a nice photo
i should have taken a shot of my neighbours PilotPower after he smoked the rear out from under himself and scrubbed his ducati999 fairings in.. but it would have been kind of cruel
i never thought it was the tyre that was at fault :/
i like the sculpting pattern they have as well
2WEELFERRUM04 08-18-2005, 07:46 AM this tires just rock
