ok..... i know i've seen similar questions before, but i still need some assistance. my '00 R1 is still pretty much stock, atleast performance wise. i pulled up beside two bikes (older vfr and cbr f3) the other day, and they made my bike sound like a string trimmer... :machinegu ok, now my question: i am looking into getting a new slip on to replace my stock can. i know there are a lot of options and you guys keep preaching akrapovic, but in all honesty, i really don't want to spend that kind of dough, nor am i really after any max. hp gains. i just want good sound, no rejetting, and something pretty loud, but not too obnoxious sounding. any input, experiences, or knowledge in other brands is what i'm looking for so the next time i pull up beside those guys, i can go...... :butt

i've looked into yoshi, d&d, two brothers, jardine, vance and hines, micron, and a few others..... please help me out guys

Just want to let you know about the MIG high-pipe.

I was out this Sunday and ... there is not much of sound while you're at low RPM's... but if you give throttle and le the R1 do what it's supposed to... leave everyone behind it roars off and sounds just :rock awesome!

It's a snappy sound if you know what I mean

It sounds good alright! :D

Yosh has gone downhill on everything but Suzukis,I am not saying they are bad but they put most of their R & D in Zuks,D & D is cheap and very loud but obnoxious loud not cool loud,Can't really tell you much about Two Brothers except that I got a catalog in the mail yesterday;)

I had a two brothers and it sounded pretty good not as good as a two brothers full system on a CBR 929 and it is probably the sweetest thing I have ever heard but I also heard that two brothers is like yoshi except for honda. Now I have a wolf high mount and it sounds pretty good to

I had a D&D carbon fibre full race system on my zx7 and yes it sounded loud... so freakink LOUD!!! But i liked it soooooo much! Once, me and a friend made a test, he stayed ouside is home and i wen't and did a 5 miles loop (back & forth) on an highway near his place... he followed me by sound and he NEVER lost me... from the moment i left his driveway to to moment i was back in it! It just makes your engine sound like a 50 000$ highly tuned beast!
:machinegu

As opposed to Twisted i think that was way cool, having your bike sound like nothing else but a super bike! But, but... i have to agree that street is not a place for such a loud pipe... laws and neighbours being what they are! I was allways afraid of twisting the handlle too much in case some cops were around! :n0t

D&D, Two Bros, and Yosh are kind of loud. I prefer the stealth mode especially around town. You know the kind of cans that are really mellow until you crack it open.

Micron makes a nice slip-on but I think the logo is kind of goofy. Ivan can get them without the logo though. Leo Vince makes a really nice can too. Check out MCN's reviews of cans. They have sound clips from a couple dozen cans.

I have a Blue flame highmount slip-on on my R1. It has a really mean idle. My friend has a Two Bros carbon fiber slip-on on his R6 it sounds great, but the damn aluminum tip is starting to corrode due to the weather or just the pollution in Japan. Muzzy sounds good but uses steel rivets and they begin to rust. D&D sounds really good on my friends ZX-7R, but it can be a little loud if you don't like that kind of thing. Devil pipes also sound good but are a little loud and maybe pricey. I'm not a big fan of Yoshi for anything but Suzuki. Check out www.kneedraggers.com just to get an idea, they have a good selection with photos. Good luck finding the right pipe for you.

in my opinion,it doesnt matter if yosh cans are good only on suzukis(i have a full system on my R1)since you simply want a slip-on;

the notes emanating from diff. cans can be different, but the noise levels are pretty much similar since you retain the exup valve and that"s what doing the most noise-cutting on the R1"s.

so,dont pass on a good deal even if its a yosh.

they are all well-made cans.

if you want more companies than you prayed for, just check the exhaust section on my site :)

I had an M4 slip-on with Ivans needles on my 2000 R1 and it sounded super sweet! Listen to Twisted Logic, he speakith the truth!
If I ever was in a pinch and didn't want to spend the dough-re-me then I'd buy the M4 before anything else. They got to be one of the best quality exhausts I've seen other than the Akropovics.

about your wolf pipe;

is it a full system?a slipon?

do you have a pic of the downtube(link from manifold to can)or does it has restrictors still inside?

I have a Quill extreme high mount. Looks nice, it's pretty loud and I think it sounds pretty good. I would not buy it again though, I would go for the Leo-Vinci.

I dont know I bought this bike from a friend and it's just a slip on I dont think he did non of that stuff to it

martinc

to R1RIDER:

if the restrictor is still in,its easy to see it;it is like small tube inside the pipe(outlet),just like the stock can.

it can be removed if its still in.

I was rudely awakened by the reality of how expensive an Akropovic can is. Kneedraggers has it for around $500 US do the math and I was thinking $800 CDN. Wow.

But then add on the Canadian surcharge ($12) and the shipping ($28) all in US and now we're up to mid 8's. Go into my local shop, $950 of my hard earned Canadian bucks.

Thanks to Todd Munro @ kneedraggers but I'll find a cheaper slip on. :boobies

If you are going slip on I would go another route also,Akra is the shiznit for full systems but if you just want a slip on look around the forum an dthere are many threads on the subject. Todd :rock huh

maxprimal Funny that you posted the pic of your bike again! I printed it so I could show my guy exactly what I wanted! High mount. Anodized blue. Keep the passenger pegs.

Problem is, he doesn't have a hookup on a distributor yet. He told me they're still working on one. Back to the internet.

Sweet bike man.

i had a carbon d and d and it was loud. if you want a loud pipe that is not very expensive then give d and d a second look. the fit was not the best but the price was right for me at the time. i now have a full akra and nothing comes close to fit and finish (and sound)

I have a carbon d&d on mine also. They are fairly rare here in the uk. I bought it off a mate for £100 ukp when it was 1 year old. Sounds good, although if you dont have the carbs set properly it does make the exhaust sound louder! One thing i dont like about it, is that the d&d seems to be a very small diameter exhaust... looks like something a 400cc bike would have.

Ok guys. Some of you don't like loud pipes, and I respect that. But I like a good, quality loud pipe. For one thing, I travel the Los Angeles freeway deathtraps everyday and I have been saved on countless ocasions by my loud pipe on my old bike.

I had a ZX-7R with D&D. Sounds was just right! Very loud, but not an annoying loud. I got so many compliments on it, even by passing motorists... granted, I also don't go ripping through town... I tend to keep it mellow.

Just recently, I bought an '02 R1 and my friend an '02 R6. We put D&D slip-ons on both. His R6 sounds super sweet, just like my ZX-7R did. But my R1 sounds way too mellow... only time it starts to get loud is approaching 9-10k and even that it's not the same quality sounds as my friends R6.

What can I do to make it louder and sound better? I was thinking of playing with the muffler a bit and remove 1/2 the packing and see what that did. Is this a waste of time? Is the problem the EXUP valve?

Now, if I go with a full system later on and remove the EXUP valve, how does that affect performance? I've heard significant power loss below 5-6k with it removed. But then since it's EFI, would a remap or Power Commander fix this?

Thanks for your thoughts. Please no flames from the "stealth advocates"

I've got a Vance & Hines S4 Titanium Slip On. Looks great, sounds sweet but not too loud. It weighs next to nothing and i have had it installed for 2 years with no problems. The rivets on the name plate rusted a little but that is easily fixed. I would reccomend it. I had a Hindle before but wasn't impressed with the quality. To many stoppies took their toll. basically the pipe fell apart on the bike.

:hellobye hey

I had a 2 brothers X metal pipe on my 1999 R1 and I loved it. The only reason that I took mine off is I got ran off the road and trashed it. After that, I wanted that different look and went the the awesome look of the high mount mig. Can't wait to finish putting my bike back together and post some pics.

But, if you want a great sounding pipe without paying too much money, call Second Look and get their prices. I had priced a high mount blue micron pipe from them and it was $325. Mig high mount carbon fiber was $416.

Good luck on that slip-on and god bless the R1!
