Gawarrior 07-05-2005, 12:22 PM Hey fellas, while we are still excited and everything is still fresh let's start talking about some good ideas for next year's convention. Like food planning, prize giveaways or anything else we can think of to make it even better next year.
BTW, we are looking at the 2nd full week in June. I will post when I have it finalized.
chad
goodriddance 07-05-2005, 12:33 PM have it at VIR, Road Atlanta, or Barbers?
Finsl 07-05-2005, 12:36 PM Strippers.....A whole week looking at you guys and I'm gonna need it:no
HAHA sorry Chad, had to be the first........OK, back to business:fact
I like the idea of a couple big food events(maybe catered), and provide your own stuff for grilling the rest of the time. I say we set up an events place for community grilling though. Know what I mean???
Southern118 07-05-2005, 12:39 PM COME ON CHAD I WILL HELP AGAIN THIS YEAR WITH PRIZES BUT LET YOU BE THE MAIN ONE. I THINK JUST COOKING MAYBE SAY FRIDAY SATURDAY ONLY.

Yeah I like that idea myself. We just have to figure out what we want to do for the big food events. We could still cook every night at the end of shuckstack but just have everyone bring their own food if they want to grill. :dunno
And we might could see if we could swing something catered for the friday and saturday nights but have someone besides Fontana Cater it.....
boxing21 07-05-2005, 12:43 PM I think a pig roast on Saturday would be good stuff. LOL, I aint bringing no live pig down though, so don't get any ideas :lol
Maybe we could do some kind of rafle, to help with the prizes??? I'd pay some loot to buy tickets for a chance to win a new Aria lid, boots, or whatever else.
I agree with Dan for the food, it is nice to all eat together, but it would be much eaiser to either cater it, or everyone in a cabin bring your own grub. It was a shame to waste so much food.
As far as the spot, I was worried about the cops, but since that wasn't a problem the same area is cool with me.
VoodooDsims 07-05-2005, 12:46 PM Do exactly the same thing next year:thumbup That way your already assured that everyone will have a blast IMO!
Voodoo
Gawarrior 07-05-2005, 12:47 PM YEah, it will be in the same spot again next year for sure.
I like the idea of having a raffle. Doing that can insure of some really good prizes. It would just depend on how much money we get. We could actually have several raffles for different things, and then still give away some stuff too.
Heck, if we had enough we might could even raffle off an 06 R1!!!! If we had 100 people at 100 bucks each that is 10000 bucks and I could probably find an 06 for close to that price to raffle off.
Anubis 07-05-2005, 12:47 PM I'll bring some activities along to include Pete and Joe's favorite "Twister"

That's exactly what I was thinking. Maybe in a couple years when we grow to 200 people, we could raffle off a new R1, not sure how many people would want to drop 100 bucks. (I would, but I'm sure not everyone would). Hell, if we get 100 people, and sold books of 20 tickets, for $20 that's 2g's we could use to buy a couple nice helmets, maybe a set of leathers, boots, gloves, tires, or whatever. Then just have a jar for each prize being given away, have everyone drop as many tickets as they want into a jar, then pull a winner.
As far as the food goes, I would not mind spending 15 bucks a night for a caterd meal. I think the best thing may be to cater Friday, and saturday meals, then the rest of the week have everyone do thier own things.

Yeah, you have a point there. I will let the 200 people mark be the goal before we raffle off a bike. $100 per person would be a lot.
I like the idea of the books of tickets for $20 each. We could get some good stuff with $2000.00.
Sounds like the catered deal for friday and saturday nights is popular. I like it too. I will be looking for ideas on who to cater it and try to find out what it will cost us. Thing with catering is we will have to pay no matter what ahead of time. And no one will be able to eat if they haven't paid....but we can deal with all that part later.

GaWarrior,
People kill me sometimes. They spend $11K for a toy then they want to complain about $100.00 or a $15.00 meal on vacation? Not being a smarta&& but am I missing something here?
They have over 11 months to save $130.00. That is @ 330 days or $.39 a day!!!
Some even argued over the t-shirt price this year!
as Fontana is the only thing close, they seem like the ONLY choice to cater this.
I'm in for a 3-day meal ticket. I enjoyed the company and THAT is where I met everyone.
For the rest of the week I will cook (cabin 1038) or hit up IrishStu (1036).
Holla,
Voodoo
Gawarrior 07-05-2005, 01:26 PM Fontana is certainly an option to do it. But I will get suggestions and prices from places in Maryville too. They have some good resturants there from what I hear.
I certainly agree with on the price but not everyone views it that way. No biggie though.

How far is Maryville? Most of these places have "distance restrictions" and Fontana is close to nothing.
Whatever the game plan, I'm in!

Maybe just start a Liquor Thread for say, $25.00? see how many people ya get!:dunno

As soon as we get dates. I will.
As we are doing this way early I most likely will not pay in full like last year, but I will be on it early!

lawman118 07-05-2005, 04:45 PM catering sounds good for Fri and Sat and on your own for the others. Would the food place at CRoT do something like that..
Including a track day somewhere in the mix would be awesome, especially for those like me who have yet to do one. Those who have could help teach us a lot.
MANOWAR@ 07-05-2005, 04:53 PM Only problem with a booze fund is the liability issue. If everyone BYOB it is easier.
Food wise I think we went a little over board with all the meat. I don't mind paying for it, but the amount we wasted was crazy!!
All in all it was the best vacation I've had in this country. :rock I can't wait for next year.
Wheat 07-05-2005, 05:09 PM I agree BYOB... Im in for whatever you guys decide.

hey everyone--
I liked the idea of dinner having each night like this year. I realize the work was a load for a selected few, but maybe you can spread the cooking between more people? Besides, we were the last ones there on sunday, and the rest of the food that was left over got donated to non-profit groups, including the chicken and all the can goods. Food that was frozen, and cans that were not opened got used somewhere. I did leave the relish jar!
Chad--
A raffle sounds like a great idea--I run the raffles, and bingos at our local fire company, and church for their main fundraising, so you can count me in if you need a hand, or advice.
Marty
SteelR1 07-05-2005, 06:31 PM Just my .02
Leave it as a BYOB, unless you go with kegs..
Love the idea of a raffle especially for stuff like helmets and TIRES!!!!
The catering idea is the best idea I heard, Fri and Sat night would be awesome to have this....
A new R1 -- that would be so AWESOME, but I also agree on the 200 mark to do this. Maybe not next year but year after, but who knows...
As long as the military doesnt screw us next year the Shaw AFB crew will be there again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man I love DEALS GAP!!!!!!!!!

Chad, if we decide to do a pig roast on that Friday or Saturday I can get the pig. Man, we have tons of wild bore running around down here. My neighbor is always wanting to pop one for any given reason. They are mighty good eating too.

Thanks Marty. I may take you up on that. I can always use someone with some experiance in that so that it runs well. Be thinking about some good ideas of how we can get that all set up.
lawman118, I would love to be able to swing a trackday during the convention for everyone, but there are some serious logistics that go with that. Not to mention the distance from the Gap. THe closest track is probably Road Atlanta and it is a good 2 hours away. But you never know what could happen:dunno
Gawarrior 07-05-2005, 08:17 PM BTW, for next year I think we will sell the shirts here on the Forum though the Forum Store. I can get SHane to modify the R1-Forum shirts we currently have to include the 2006 East Coast Convention on them. That way we don't have to worry about selling them at Fontana, and we no one will be out any money either.

If a lot of people want to make that trip on a particular day the way to do it is to break it up into smaller groups and leave in 30 or 45 minute time intervals. Then maybe meet at TWO for lunch, that way there is not one big group.
Southern118 07-11-2005, 06:28 PM but you can only do it on friday for the fact they dont do lunch mon-thur. it sucks but i will tell everyone that it is worht the trip but we need atleast 2 or 3 groups

I could call TWO and let them know we are coming. I know Britt and GT pretty good so if we plan to be there say on Wed. for lunch I could call and see if they would open up for us for lunch. I dont think they would mind at all. We could go up early and do the cooler run acouple times and eat lunch. Chad is right about staggering the ride though.
notstock 07-11-2005, 06:49 PM Hope the west coast gets another shot at it again. Looks like you guys had a great time.

There are lots of other GREAT places to eat in the area besides TWO so you don't have to plan around TWO being open to go down there.

Also, Helen has a lot of good eating places and it is a great ride over Richard B. Russel to get there:yesnod And Hwy 75 North out of helen is a great road too.

There is this place 100 yards North of TWO. They have gas, 1 pay phone, plenty of crackers, chips and cookies. Not a big selection of soda and drinks but they could put up with us:dunno
There are benches outside with plenty of seating.
They do not have a MAC Machine or do they take Visa/Mastercard but it's a cool place I guess.
AND TRUST ME, I KNOW ABOUT THIS PLACE:fact

Scott, isn't that Turners Corner or Cafe? Next year I'd like to make at least a few passes on Blood Mountain. Maybe do one then stop at the overlook/rest area then do another one or two. I do agree if we have a large crowd we need to split up. Of course I'm sure we will see LEO action if we stay too long. :fact

Yeah. :lol :lol :lol We could always use that as a back up place to eat. I know we bought every deli sandwich they had in the store. Voodoo, I'll never ever in my life forget the look on your face when we pulled up in the truck just after dark to pick your behind up. You looked like the whole R1 Forum had left you for good. This would cover all rental fee's and gas... We would still need to cover food and a place to stay while we were there.... I figure about $1200 each would allow for a great time...
I think it's still a fair amount....................

$600.00 each for how many people? 3? How many bikes does it hold?
I say get 10 people and that should not be more than $170.00 each MAX. 5 drive out and 5 fly out to Knotsville. 3Br Magnolia is $195.00 p/night or $1500 for 8 days (I know cause I got 8 days). That is another $125.00 p/person. The 5 that flew out drive back and the 5 that drove out fly back.
Thats $600.00 each including food, t-shirts, and whatever else you could think of!!
Your right, to me $1200.00 is not bad, but for a group ride we should be able to get this WAY lower with some work!

I figured it would be difficult to get SIX people to go no matter the price.... It will only hold about 5-6 bikes so that wouldn't be fair or make any sence for someone to ride all that way by truck when they could fly cheaper...

In 11 months I can get the last 10 Surgeon Generals to buy Cigarettes! They have time to save so that should make it easier.
How much was the rental for a week? is there a discount for 2?
Either way, you will NOT regret coming!:fact I had so much fun just meeting everyone it was sick! And I will not even start on food and drinks. $20.00 and I could have eaten for a month EASY!!!
Start sending out PM's or start thread NOW! Then pimp it until March or so! In the winter time you will have more people here (well not from S. LA) on the forum.

Irishstu 07-13-2005, 05:01 PM Fellas, I tell you what... I've been home for a month now from the 05' Convention and I'm already thrilled to death about going to the 06' Convention. Only problem is the deployment schedule may put me out of country during that time frame....:no :no   I'm not for sure yet, so I'll call down to Fontana and reserve the "King of the Mountain" cabin on top of the hill again and see what they say if I have to cancel. With any luck, I won't have to wait until June of next year to meet up with some of my new found friends! :thumbup
For those of you on the West Coast, this is definitely a trip worth making. I had a bunch of friends from here in the STL that made the trip out there for the AMA/MotoGP races and said it took them about 2-3 days to make the drive (3-4 for those that stopped and rode along the way). But I would definitely plan on making some stops along the way and riding some of the sweet spots between here and there! Just my .02 cents (not that its worth anything)

Sike, I cannot wait until 2006 and I here there is a secret memo floting about that they will shrink our forces and British Forces 1/2 starting next summer. I will keep praying bro no doubt! I'm not knocking the west coast guys but you guys have got to be joking if you think they will show up. They couldnt get together for a trip on the WEST coast, they sure as hell aren't going to make one 2500-3000 miles away. If they do I'll buy their beer.
Anyway, I'll be there July 29,30,31 this month staying at the CRoT if anyone wants to meet me there. the wife and I may also be there next Friday as well.

SpidermanSS 07-15-2005, 11:25 AM Joe brought it on himself... I've never messed with anyone that's not messed with me first... :fact
I'd suggest a 30 day prior to the event cut off on paying for services... I'd really like to have dinners cooked for everyone that pitches in again... It really contributes to the socializing to be able to talk and hang out with each other at dinner.. :fact So I think pitching in for food again would be a good idea... Not sure how to regulate who cooks so we don't have to do it or rely on one person the whole time but here's an idea.. If anyone knows a rider or friend etc that's a great cook.... Maybe each person contributing $ for meals can put in an extra $10-$15 to pay for someone to do the cooking. They'd just have to spend 2-3 hours a night (propably less) doing the cooking and they'd get payed for it... We can get some bracelets or event passes id tags, one for each person that's paid up.. so there's no trouble identifying who's paid and WHO gets to eat... :lol :fact This year a guy who was soliciting stuff on the forum and was banned for it showed up for dinner.. I know for a fact he never paid anything and that he doesn't participate on this site walked up to where the food cook station was and started moving tables around checking all over everything, looking in boxes and really he didn't have any business doing it, he even lipped off to wonder about getting banned.. It's not something to start trouble over or anything but bracelets would take care of that to indentify things...
My suggestion would be something like this....
$55 per person... (children $20 for just food each)
$20 food
$15 cook
$20 Grand Prize Raffle
Then if 100 show up I can get a $2000 grand prize to give away at the raffle. That'll damn near outfit someones bike :fact This year I brought about $500 worth of t-shirts and it seems it's more popular that way cause TONS of people got one.. The $35 dollars of it that would be contributed to food would FARRRRRRRRRRRRRR outweigh driving 30 min. to the crossroads each night to each cheap or eating at the very nice place at Fontana but not getting to socialize and chill with all our bros.... :fact

Yeah, we could split that up for sure. Maybe have someone different buy each night's food:dunno. That means I will need 4 volunteers to buy a meal (of course paid for out of the food fund) and be able to get a good price on the food.

I know you do not want to drop the ONE, get a used Ninja 250 or GS500. You can get the Ninja for $1200 and sell it later for the same price. Fun to ride and easy to learn on! McCoys's also has Thumpers for @$1500 that looked fun at the Gap. Everyone seem to like that dirt bike (just to learn to shift and play)
1036 on Circle Road! IrishStu (Hopefully not deployed) will be in 1038! (or if alone, might just stay in 1036)

PLEASE EXPLAIN?
Lock up the front, you flip or high side
Lose the Rear, you slide or low side (I guess unless you panic and grab a handfull of front break?)

Southern118 07-24-2005, 10:00 AM no the tires spins up slides out then when it catchs traction it throughs you. it is very painful most of the time. that is why spinnin up the rear is dangerous because if you are alittle sideways when it does catch it hooks and you go for a flight

That is exactly what he said happened. He got to the ER around 12:30 this after noon and around 4:00 I got a phone call from his friend/boss and he said they had just taken him back. I haven't heard anything else as to if they found anything.
All I know is that he said his knee and ankle were killing him because I guess when the bike through him off his foot got caught on the foot peg. And for Steve to decide on his own to go to the ER he has to be in a lot of pain!

Maybe we should start a postwhore thread and another thread with just information about the Convention Trip?

I do already have Fontana Village setup for us though. Glad to hear ya'll are going to make it. You are going to have a blast:yesnod

Try not to laugh too much, hurts like a bitch. I had 2 bruised ribs when I was a youngster. I had to avoid my dad like the plague because he had a tendency to tickle us kids until a.) we started crying, or b.) we coughed up blood. Rest up and you'll be :riding before long. :thumbup

Gawarrior 07-25-2005, 03:58 PM luckily it looks like the handlebars are the only thing bent on the bike.
Gawarrior 07-25-2005, 04:01 PM I had a buddy give me a set of pro taper bars, now I just have to get an upper tripple to mount them on. That was pretty cool....not if I can just find some new ribs:lol :lol
XShogunR1X 07-25-2005, 04:05 PM doesn't look too bad Chad... but far worse off then my R1... just scratched the fairings and bent the hell out of a frame slider...
glad to hear your alright though man...
and in case i didn't say it... i had a blast riding with ya at the Gap.... been working on that video of you in front of me....
takes a long time to get it edit right with music... LOL
Gawarrior 07-25-2005, 04:07 PM yeah Randy, last few trips to the MX track have been rough. But I tell you I was having a blast!!! I even was clearing a 87 ft tripple and a 90 ft downhill double:rock :) But the one I crashed on was about a 70ft step down double/ tabletop. I over shot it bu about 10 feet....ooops:lol resulting in this

VoodooDsims 07-26-2005, 09:42 AM BACK ON TOPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was kidding about being down with strippers, family event (R1-Family) and hopefully I will have my daughter there with her new dirtbike!
Second, I think we need to get a printed schedule of events (dinner, rides, activities, picture meets) printed and distributed NLT April 15th or so. I got asked 100's of time "what time is this" or "what time is that". Let's get a schedule and stick to it.
Also on that note, let's not make the schedule so large that there is no BS time!:fact (or time with family for that matter!)
Just my .002!
Voodoo
Gawarrior 07-26-2005, 09:56 AM There will not be much of a schedule...takes away from just hanging out and riding and bsing. If there are certain things planned like whitewater rafting etc. we can make sure that is printed and handed out at the frontdesk.

The schedule we had this year was EXCELLENT. Skyway run, TWO, group picture, rafting and dinner. Just the times were not set so it was questionable and hard for some to coordinate with family.
I did not think it took away from bs'ing.

Southern118 07-26-2005, 11:30 AM I WILL BE WORKIGN ON WHITE WATER RAFTING AGAIN THIS YEAR BUT WE WILL HAVE TO LEAVE EARLIER AND PAYED UP FRONT. I THINK THE GROUP PIC SHOULD BE IN THE EVENING AND SHOULD BE PLANNED WAY AHEAD OF TIEM THE 8AM PICK WAS A BAD IDEA AFTER EVERYONE DRANK ALL NIGHT
