venomvenom 08-24-2005, 05:47 PM Hey, regardless of high gearing or not, professed horsepower or not, wheelies or not, and especially to those who just explain it away by saying "hey stupid, its geared for the track", I just want to say that after having my '04 R6 for a year and wringing out all 600 cc's almost on a daily basis, I don't feel like my new R1 has accounted for the 400 additional cc's.
Anyway - I still wouldn't tade this bike for anything, and I love it!!
Bomber_Man 08-24-2005, 05:50 PM Pull your balls out and open the throttle.

Bomber_Man 08-24-2005, 05:53 PM I used to think the same thing when I first got mine. After awhile I noticed I wasnt even using 70% of the throttle. So I decided to change my riding style and keep the revs up and the gears down. I quickly "found" the horsepower I thought I was missing.
venomvenom 08-25-2005, 10:33 AM You might be right, I'll check it out Bomber_Man
===>R1<=== 08-25-2005, 10:34 AM like bomber said keep it revved out :fact
Bomber_Man 08-25-2005, 10:41 AM I read a magazine article somewhere that described the R1's engine perfectly. They called it "King Kong in a three piece suit". Personally I think its really cool because I dont have to ride around everyday like I'm Ricky Racer but if I want the power I know its there. My R1 is a daily rider for me and I think that is what makes it great on the streets. Its kind of like having a fast R6 on nitrous...except the nitrous never runs out.
Bomber_Man 08-25-2005, 10:42 AM By the way:
Congrats on the bike and welcome to the forum!

SpcRose 08-25-2005, 10:54 AM Well i will add my take on this by saying that this is my first year on an 05 R1 all the other bikes i've owned were R6's and one thing that i know is that on an R6 i wasn't afraid to crack the throttle wide open , knowing it was only a 600 ( yeah i know 6's are just as dangerous ) with the R1 now i hesitated alot hearing all this of the wheel coming up in 1st and 2nd i was afraid of looping ! but with a little seat time i to noticed the TRUE power of the 1 ! i can agree with you wooping all other 6's , cause i done the same on my 03 R6 , BUT there was one that i couldn't pull on and that was the Kawi 636 , other than that one bike all other 6's couldn't see me !
You might still be a little afraid of the bike ! OPEN THAT BEECH ! and be careful ! to MY experience all the other litre bikes i raced since i got my R1 have seen my tail !:finger

I know what you mean about fearing the jump in power when giong from the R6 to the R1, however, I don't know about you, but I never had any problem powering up the front of my R6 in second gear at about 60-65 mph, no lie. I never used the clutch to get it either.
sultanramza 08-27-2005, 08:19 AM I have a 2000 r1 that I ride daily, and I don't have a power problem. In every gear it is off the chain. My last tire the guys at the shop thought I was doing burnouts to wear it down, but I never stunt (on purpose), but giving the R1 the gas it really grips and goes. I plan on buying a 03 soon, and my advice to you is get an older R1 if you want to feel alot of torque and power down low.

so what are you saying is that you cant pull the R1 up at 60-65?? if this is true then its quite obvious that you arent grabbing your balls... i pull mine up anywhere from 85-95 in 3rd.... no clutch. or in 2nd pretty much at any speed i want above 40 (within reason)
