Hello fellow riders! I currently own a stock 99 R1 and I am looking to spice it up a little. I plan on purchasing a "MIG" high mount slip on can and also a carbon fiber ram air box. I was wondering what kind of jet kit to buy for this application or if not to buy one at all. I want to recieve maximum performance from my bike so what should I do????????? Confused!!!!

Save yourself much heartache and get the IVAN's jet kit for your bike. I have installed 4 of his kits in R1's and have not had to reopen one yet. It is the best jet kit on the market for the R1.:hellobye

As Jay said,Ivans is the best. As far as the ram air you might want to ask martinc about the tuning fun for ram air;)

I spoke with Ivan at length and he said the ram-air box is a waste of money 'cause it's not a true ram air system. Get Ivan's jet kit and a slip on or full system and you will be happy though.

Thanks MrWeelr, I guess I'll save some $$ on the ram air box and put it towards something else!!(Euro tail)

well, the only diff. between my ramair and a "real" ramair is that i do not have that trick flapper valve that opens up as i go;besides that,it is a true ramair, hell, same design as all the WSB kits(I saw them all). but hey, dont go there unless you want to spend many hours fiddling(i like fiddling) lol p.s. got a flo-commander coming, more or less fiddling,i got great hopes in this product.

Martinc: Go with the Ivan's jett-kit and a full Akro system. He will tell you that his jett-kit will only work with an full exhaust that has 4-2-1 or any slip-on. AND he GUARANTEES 140-145hps w\ his kit and a full Akro sys. He has a good price on the Akro full sys for like between 850-900 USD w\ FREE SHIPPING!!! CALL HIM before you do anything and ask everything you asked us. But that's just my 2 cents. ONE!!!!!

Bo, just so you know, Martin has a ram air setup on his R1. He know's IVAN personally, and I think IVAN even made the needles that are in his Ram air bike. Made them just for his application. He might just know more about the inner working of the R1 motor than a yamaha Tech. you should check out BORG's Ling-o-rama, everything you ever wanted for your r1, and about a million other things you didn't even know they made for r1's...lol

Not tryin to flame anyone, but i think you guys might be just a little brainwashed by Ivan's jet kits. I have seen dyno charts from Ivan's jet kits vs. a local shops graphs with a Factory jet kit on the same exhaust and they are identical. Looks to me like you could save 30 bux or so and have the same HP. I think it comes down to the shop doing the tuning. Just my .02...... NOT PUTTING ANYONE DOWN, just my opinion!!!!

I have installed over 30 jet kit's. I have used Factory, Dyno jet, and IVAN's. Every Factory Jet kit I have installed I have had to remove the carbs and make adjustments to after the inital instalation. I have had better luck with Dyno jet, but after trying to get one of their R6 jet kits to run correctly, I finally put the stock needles back in the bike to make it run correctly. That is a waste of money for the coustomer. I have installed about 6 Ivan's Kit's so far. I have not reopened one bike yet. They have all been plug and play Jet kits. They have all run cleanly from idle to red line. I have also spent time on the phone with Factory, Dyno jet, and IVAN. Factory and DYNO jet were both very helpful, giving me things to try to get the bike where it needed to be. IVAN is a welth of info, I usually talk to him before ordering anything for a bike (zx6-R, ZX9-9, r1, R6...etc) that i have not used his kit on before. He saves me time and the coustomer money by telling anyone who will listen what works and what does not. Just my .02 worth.:hellobye

Just for information sharing, Dyno Jet kit's do not always come with such a large assortment of main jets, nor do they always come with piolet jets. And often times they will have you drill the slide lift hole, or restrict the slide lift hole. However they almost never have you change the float height level. Factory almost always has you change the float height, and almost never has you change the slide lift holes but sometimes will come with different slide springs. Dyno Jet and Factory want their jet kits to work in a wide range of conditions stock filter, uni filter bmc filter K&N filter, slip-on, full system from 10 different pipe benders.....etc IVAN just tells you what he has found that works. The short fall with IVAN is that if you have your heart set on a pipe that does not work with his system their is no tuning to make it work. I will say though, when I open a jet kit with 4 set's of main jets and piolet jets I see that as a bad sign. It means there are more chances to get it wrong, or that the jetting is harder to tune. That does not mean the kits are not good, just that it may take a bit of work to get. I get paid by the job, not by the hour so if I can install it once and be done with it I am a happy man. I am not knocking Dyno Jet or Factory. I had a Factory kit in my 95 ZX6-R race bike and it was a little screamer. I am just saying from my experiance that IVAN's will give you the cleanest, smoothest power with the least ammount of work.:D

I just finished installing an IVAN's jet kit in a 99 R6. It has a Yosh slip-on pipe and is other wise stock. The bike runs really well, I was very impressed. Pulls clean from idle to red line, pulls in 5th gear at 20 MPH at WOT with out any problems. It was a bit more work than other jet kits I have installed, as some pressed in air jets have to be tapped and removed. Kinda made me wish I owned and R6. Those bikes are so small they make you think you can do anything on them. The owner is happy. says it does first gear power wheelies that it did not do before.
