The Cherohala and foothills pkwy are cruiser roads... To really make those fun, you'd have to really go pretty fast (above 80mph to 100mph). Anything below that and you'd fall asleep while riding. Too risky for even me :no
Those are the roads where you really see guys crashing and burning... 100mph for 5 miles and the whoops! a 20mph turn bites you
I dont think we even go that fast on blood mtn. Twisted Noodle 02-09-2006, 02:50 PM Who needs a map ...Lets Go to the Gap! vrooomr6 02-09-2006, 04:39 PM Originally posted by KneeDragger77

he is talking about the cheese grader on one side and the mountain on the other. it will tame you if you ever sit there and think about it. i will tell you the one time i almost bit it up there scared the shit out of me and just had to look through the corner and hold the clutch all the way sucked sucked sucked. but then again i cant keep up with the front of the group so no big deal there vrooomr6 02-09-2006, 10:17 PM Yea, I hear ya on those cheese graters:eek: I always feel leery on the turns that are close to it, but there are alot of turns on the other side with some runoff room. Those are the good ones. If you know the road and dont fly on the nasty corners, its not bad at all. Definitely dangerous if you dont know the road though. Its nice to head up there on a hot day when its such a drops in temp too.
*sp edit Skeeter 02-11-2006, 04:57 PM I had a blast riding the Skyway, but yes it can be very dangerous. I really love the section from the Joyce Kilmer to the large overlook were everyone pulls over. From that point on down to Tellico Plains it's not as fun for me since it's mostly downhill. And phil you are right about Blood mtn, you don't get as fast as cherohala there, but you can easily get into triple digits if you want to:scared :lol but it keeps you turning and the turns don't sneak up on you like cherohala does.
Heck they are all wonderful roads...I wanna ride!!!!!!!!!!:jump :jump
oh crap, that sounded like a honda commercial:scared

Blood Mtn = 2 lanes, banked, uphill, and smooth pavement! Too bad there are alot of po-po....
But if I had to choose just 1 road to ride (without fear of tickets), it would be Blood Mtn over Deals Gap. Gawarrior 02-15-2006, 09:30 PM Originally posted by KneeDragger77

I second that for sure. :fact I won't be on the Gap during the weekend unless it's early in the morning before it gets busy. MinnesotaR1 02-23-2006, 10:23 AM What is the deal with Deal's Gap??? I am from MN...never heard of it. is it worth a trip out there??? Gawarrior 02-23-2006, 11:01 AM Originally posted by MinnesotaR1

Yes! Come to the East Coast Convention at Deal's Gap and you will get to really see what it is all about! MinnesotaR1 02-23-2006, 11:50 AM Is it just curves? cops patrol it like crazy since every bike in the state goes there? exactly where is it? the whole area is awesome! It is 318 curves in 11 miles. But that is just the Gap, there are tons of other great roads in the area. Cops do patrol it from time to time but you get fair warning most of the time and that is only on middle of the day during weekends. Weekdays are fine and mornign and evenings are fine too. check out www.tailofthedragon.com for some good info.
Come to the East Coast Convention with us:yesnod GapRider 03-12-2006, 08:37 PM Originally posted by KneeDragger77

Phil, think of what you are saying.
Blood mountain = no chance of knowing where the po po are.
really high speeds with mommy vans in the mix.
wide open so everybody can see you
Deals Gap = always knowing where the po po are.
hidden road
less speed so you can slow down to inconspicuous speed in an instant.
way more curves.
all you buddies at the overlook
we need to do another GAP trip for old times sake!!! GapRider 03-12-2006, 08:42 PM here are some good maps of the area. GapRider 03-12-2006, 08:43 PM Originally posted by GapRider

Hey are you riding down to the gap?? I'm thinking of going this year, I'm about 45 mins. north of phily, Maybe I'll ride down with you guys if you got a group going.. Southern118 03-12-2006, 10:44 PM if you are doing more then 2 or 3 days i would trailer down and not ride down bestman77 03-13-2006, 12:25 AM Originally posted by southern118

Yeah I'm thinking of staying the whole week....might be a stupid question, but I've never been there before..why trailer if staying more than a couple of days? Gawarrior 03-13-2006, 07:20 AM Originally posted by bestman77

Awesome bro! let me know what you decide! There are quite a few guys coming down from Philly so I am sure you could hook up with someone.
As for trailering...that is completely up to you. We have guys that ride and some that trailer. I trailer for two reasons...not enough room on the bike for what all I bring...not to mention I will bring at least 2 bikes maybe 3...and the other reason for me is God forbid I go down I will have a way to get my stuff back home if the bike is not rideable. But if you want to ride down then ride down...if something happens we will find you a way home...no worries bro:thumbup GapRider 03-13-2006, 02:49 PM Originally posted by GPD270
