I've got a 330ci and want to put on a hitch to trailer my R1 (the lightweight black model) to track days. Anyone have any experience with a hitch on a 330ci? Photos appreciated.

http://x0c.xanga.com/a89b00520223329966260/b20958313.jpg i have a hitch on my 2001 infiniti i30t. it pulls my r1 just fine up to about 65mph. ppl tell me that the uhaul trailers are damn heavy compared to others. plus the gate doesn't help either. this pic is me pulling my friend's new r6. another friend uses his wrx to pull his sv1000 for track days just fine. he has a light trailer and he says he goes 80 mph without any issues. he has one of those harbor frieght type trailers.

You should have NO problem with a BMW 330c/i. I tow mine with a Infiniti J30, and I know you have more power than my car. Most sedans have a 1000lb tow capacity (standard across the board). So you can not do much of a bigger trailer than the small orange trailer that uhaul rents. If you are going to use it frequent, buy THIS TRAILER (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=90154) . I bought it and it works great. Put some plywood on it, and your good to go. About 4 hrs to build it. Bike = ~ 400lbs, Trailer ~280lbs... this keeps you well under your 1000lb capacity. when you start getting into the bigger trailers, you could start porking along on the interstate, or ruin your transmission. -Rob

You can definately do it. I used to tow a pace 5x8 trailer with my 97 328i. I used to carry my shifter kart to & from the track and we even used it to move some furniture here & there. Never had any problems. I had the Dalan hitch, click here (http://search.cartserver.com/search/search.cgi?cartid=a-9041&bool=AND&category=combo_makemodel&maxhits=10&keywords=2003&keywords_2=BMW+3&GO=GO%21) for a link to the approriate hitch for your car. ( I assumed the year) You can search for your exact year & model with the hitch selector (http://www.hitchesonline.com/hitch_selector_combo.htm) Best of luck and you have nothing to worry about. Doesnt even look that horrible when the ball isnt on there.

Hell, I pull my bike trailer with a PT Cruiser 2.4L, no turbo. I do notice a decrease in mpg but that is to be expected. I can feel the weight on the rear of the car and didn't have any issue trailering to Mid-Ohio last year. Installed the low profile trailer hitch I ordered on line from Reese. I had a little problem with the install but a little grinding down of the carriage bolts and she was secure. If you do it yourself, take the time to wire the wiring harness the right way. Try to keep as much of the wiring and the module inside the car. I have a pigtail for my plug that I keep inside the car. When I want to use the trailer, I pull out the pigtail and connect the wiring harness from inside the car to the trailer. The first harness took the absue of half a winter here in NY and started shorting out. I had to take the clippers to the whole harness and rip it out last winter. I did it right the second time by taking some of the panels out of the back of the car and running the wires. Looks like a pro did the install if I may say so myself. Chris
