I'll be putting some new Pirelli Diablos on my bike soon and I'm thinking of dropping down to 180 in the rear as opposed to the 190s but I wanted to know what you guys/gals are running?

Most people I talk to say go 180, but my buddy over the weekend was making me kind of nervous talking about how quickly the bike will go over with the 180s. I've been happy with the 190 so I don't know if it's worth changing...

your thoughts are appreciated :thumbup

I'll add my 2 cent, I really like the 190/55's because of the bigger contact, I used to run the 180's. But ever since I started running the B Stones 002's Race. I've used the bigger 190, and love it. I like the look and the feel, I don't think I have less turning speed, cuz of the lean angle capabilities. Just my 2 cent/.:fact :fork

Chris, for what reason are you thinking of going with the 180?

I've read reviews here on the site that recommend dropping down to the 180 to improve cornering but I'm still not sure about doing it. did you stay with the 190s?

I still have the stock 190 on my bike, when it's time for new tires (probally by the middle of this season) I'll be putting a 190 back on. Either Pilot Powers or Dunlop Qualifiers.
I like the bigger contact patch and I'm happy with the way the bike turns in now.
Just curious what's making you go with the Diablo's, I have nothing against them. I have the Diablo Corsa's on the 1000RR and I think they are great tires. I was just wondering why you picked them over Pilot Powers or Dunlop Qualifiers. :dunno

I had to pick something, and from what I've read it sounds like the Diablos, Powers and Qualifiers are all in the same class. Maybe I'll look thru some newer reviews and see if I come to the same conclusion...

I'm doing new Powers this week (as soon as they come in) and I thought about the 180.....but went 190 instead.

IMHO

There are not really any cons to going with the 180. The quick turn in is not too quick, just more responsive.

The 190/55 mentioned earlier, from what I hear has overcome some of the slower turn-in, but I don't think it is available in many street compounds yet. Correct me if I'm wrong guys, I haven't really been looking lately.

I'm very happy with my 180 Pilot Powers.

Great choice...excellent tires. I've got a set in the garage (190) on standby while I burn up the stock D218's. My 1 is only 2 months old, but I found a killer deal on the Powers that I just couldn't pass up. (CompetitionAccessories.com---> $232 package deal) :thumbup

Your bike will turn quicker, that's it.

It will tip in quicker, you'll get used to it and be the better off for it in the twisties....

You could stick with the 190 and raise the rear ride height slightly (8-10mm) the would have a similar effect, but fit a damper...

What exactly are you looking for out of this, if you want quicker turning go for it. If you're happy with it leave it. 190 looks better too and at the end of the day it was designed for a 190.

Let us know what you go for.

I just ordered up another 190 Power Pilot rear. I was checking around online and came across Ron Ayer's site. I posted up another listing about the difference on the 04 spec 190 rear compared to the regular 190 and found out that the 04 spec is a little stiffer compound. Well the 04 spec PP 190 is $117.16 so I figure why not. Tag on $10 shipping and I have a replacement for $127.16.

190 leaves a larger footprint and is more stable. 180 is great for quick direction change...but like sevenr said...proper bike setup could give you the same effect.

If your riding consists of mainly twisty mountain roads and sharp turns, the 180/55/17 is prefered. You will not have a mucht larger contact patch on a 190/50/17 while the bike is leaned over on the edge. The 180 will make the bike transition a little faster and easier, but unless you're a very experienced rider, you may not notice the difference.

If your riding is mainly boulevard riding (ie, around town and stuff) then the 190/50/17 rear is prefered due to its wider contact patch while upright.

all this talk about 180/190 tire...........I bought 120/190 PPs and couldnt be happier. No kinds of problems leaning the bike. I think you need to be riding at rossi speeds to campaign for 180 over 190.
